OTT Sites Suspended HD Streaming On Cellular Networks In India

On Tuesday Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi appealed the citizens of India to go on a 21-days lockdown to subdue the spread of COVID-19. Following his statement, the OTT sites which decided to reduce the traffic by 25% to lessen the burden on telecom networks, has suspended the HD and Ultra HD streaming on cellular networks until April 14. Cellular network users can now only stream SD quality and the bit rates are lowered to 480p to counter the unprecedented surge in mobile Internet consumption. However, this measure is only for mobile network users and not for broadband users. This move was taken to ensure that all the citizens can access mobile networks wherever and whenever they want.
