Moment of Glory - First female director of Indian cinema - Fatma Begum

Women have made phenomenal contributions in all fields. Considering Indian film industry, we bring to you the first lady filmmaker of the country. Given the dearth of lady filmmakers even in this 21st century, in 1926, Fatma Begum was a pioneer who paved way for many other women to follow. Fatma was an actress, director, and writer. She is officially credited as the first female film director of Indian cinema, her first film being Bulbul-e-Paristan, in 1926. She also launched her own production house, Fatma Films. In addition to acting in Fatma Films, she juggled between writing, directing, producing. She directed many other films in this 4 year period, her last being the Goddess of Luck in 1929.
