Literature-based movies create market for films and books

From the time of Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen to the contemporary age of Bangla cinema, the literature-based movies have aways struck gold at the box office. 'Pother Panchali', 'Saptapadi' to recent 'Byomkesh Bakshi' and 'Eagoler Chokh', audience have always favored movies with a solid story written by an established author. On the other hand, these movies also improved the sale of books. According to the book publishers, Feluda, Byomkesh, Kakababu have always been in demand. The film releases only raise the hype for some time. However, in the case of Shabor, the movies did increase the sale of the books. Saratchandra Chattopadhyay and Rabindranath Tagore's books have always been in the best-seller list, movies don't have much impact on the same. "Tollywood should make more literature based movies now," says Anjan Dutt, who has adapted Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay's Byomkesh series for movies.
