Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se Review: Strictly for Deol Fans
Certain family matters interest the people and if the said families are from the film industry, the interest reaches another level. To cash on such interest and to satiate the fans' thirst to watch the family of their favorite films star family on the screen, movies like Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se comes out. The movie is the third installment of the franchise with Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, and Bobby Deol starring in the lead roles.
While the first film of the series is generally well-loved by both the critics and the audience, the second film of the franchise went without a trace. Despite its star power, as Dharmendra himself admitted about the movie, Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 was a rushed production. And as Dharmendra says about Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se, the movie was expected to tickle the funny bone of the audience. Whether it is the case or not, we can see with Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se review.
A doctor and his neighbors
The story of the movie concerns that of a brainy as well as a brawny Ayurvedic doctor who like any self-respected film doctor played by a hero should, helps the poor and the mega pharmaceutical companies are after his secret formula for a medicine called vajra Kawach/ How he keeps them at the bay forms one part of the film.
The doctor, aptly named Vaidya Puran has a tenant named Jayant Parmar and his 40-year-old bachelor of a brother. They are always on their separate ways. But like in any such films, one incident brings them together. What is that incident and how they fight off the common challenge form the rest of the story. Of course, the hero fending off the pharma companies.
Throwback to the 1990s, but with Sunny Deol
Every time in his 1990s action films, Dharmendra is accused of going overboard. But this time, he took the back seat in overacting. That role is taken by Sunny Deol and shows off his power in few scenes where he makes pulp of a tractor with his Dhai kilo ka Haath. Dharmendra exudes the charm of a quirky 80-year-old man.
Dharmendra clearly leads the pack whether when he is flooring a sitting judge in a courtroom and or in making women un... well we leave it there. Sunny Deol comes a close second with his punches that are not comical, but lethal enough for the bad guys. Bobby Deol gets maximum screen space, but sadly his character is riddled with repetitive humor which makes the proceedings torturous to the audience.
Kriti Karbanda as the lead lady tried desperately to add the glamor quotient but is found lacking in spark. The director's work is similarly lacking in originality in this film. Except for a few laugh out loud moments, Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se has nothing to show for a movie having such a star cast. Shatrughan Sinha's judge role has a couple of good moments with Dharmendra's Jayant Parmar. Otherwise, he did a pretty average job.
Sorry work by the crew
There is nothing to write about the music which at times sounds peaceful and sometimes go on downright irritating. The cinematography is good though. Editing could have been better and several scenes should have been chopped off without mercy. Close to two and a half hours of run time is a criminal waste.
All in all, Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se is strictly for the fans of Dharmendra and co. For the rest, they can find better comedies elsewhere. Average direction, lack of a charming heroine, and original comedy make the movie a hard watch what with a surprisingly good horror comedy in the theatres alongside this film. Skip it no problem.

The latest installment of Yamla Pagla Deewana has hit the screens today and with the early and morning shows are underway and the preview shows are done, the movie is receiving a generally negative response from the early watchers. The movie stars the Deol family in the lead roles: Dharmendra, Sunny, and Bobby. The movie also stars Kriti Karbanda as a female lead. It appears that there are not many who are interested in watching the movie. Pathetic for a film starring an actor of the stature Dharmendra and his sons. But it's not completely negative though. Some of the audience enjoyed the comedy it offers.
The movie can be watched for the Deols, but it is heartbreaking to watch such a film with top stars playing the lead roles. Some even go to the extent of saying the movie should not have been made. Which incidentally was Dharmendra's thinking for the failure of the second film of the franchise. In addition to this, the audience got irritated because of bland brand promotions even in the dialogues. Few others say that Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se is a bit better than the second installment.

What is Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se about?
Another Phirr and another much-loved franchise, but this time with a star family of Deols. Dharmendra, originally Dharam Singh Deol and his two sons Sunny and Bobby return to the franchise one more time. The stories about crazy mad lovers struck a chord with the audience. The second film was a bit of a disappointment. But as Dharmendra himself said, the movie was rushed, and he knew from the beginning it's going to flop at the box office. But now, we have the third film in the offing.
The trailer shows the three leads with three distinct qualities- Dharmendra is a drunk father who enjoys the company of women. Sunny Deol plays his brother who is a serious and straightforward doctor. And Bobby Deol is a happy go lucky guy in general, of course, he has to.
For undisclosed reasons, how can they give away the important plot point just in a trailer, the three are asked to fake themselves as Gujaratis which leads to a whole lot of funny misunderstandings. Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se has all the markings of a commercial entertainer- be it's Sunny Deol's action, Dharamendra’s quirkiness or Bobby Deol’s fun and energetic vibe. Of course, his romantic equation with Kirti Kharbanda also adds another layer of fun to the trailer.
