Velipaadinte Pusthakam Review & Rating|
Mohanlal starrer 'Velipaadinte Pusthakam' directed by Lal Jose was one of the much-anticipated movies of the year. The movie which marked the maiden collaboration between the complete actor and the hitmaker director hit theaters amidst huge expectations. Set on a campus, the movie was about how newly joined Professor Michael Idikkula, played by Mohanlal, brings about a change in the lives of the students and the general atmosphere of the campus.
Mohanlal's character in the movie is a role the actor can sleepwalk through. Although he has been portrayed like a demigod among a bandwagon of shallow characters crowding every frame, there is so little Mohanlal could do because of the unoriginality in the story and poor execution. The rest of the cast has done a good job in their badly sketched characters while the only performances worth mentioning are by Anoop Menon and Chemban Vinod Jose.
It's disappointing that a director like Lal Jose couldn't bring out the best from a brilliant actor like Mohanlal. While the errors in scripting and execution stand tall, the technical side of the movie is decent to an extent. The cinematography by Vishnu Sarma and music by Shaan Rahman make this otherwise uninspiring movie bearable.
Final Verdict: 'Velipaadinte Pusthakam' is a movie which in no way meets the slightest expectation of a Lal Jose-Mohanlal movie. And for movie-goers who only cares to see Lalettan in his all might and charm, this could perhaps be a one-time watch.
