Puthan Panam Critic Reviews
Puthan Panam User Reviews
Puthan Panam - Better than Maathukutty but miles away from Pranchiyettan. This is how I would sum up the movie. Ranjith has been able to capture a lot of what we all went through after the currency demonetization. But, the movie ends up as just a narrative piece on the matter, rather than a critical piece on the govt.'s one of the most controversial and consequential decisions. Talking about the script, it is not tight at Pranchiyettan but it is much better than Loham. Yet, I won't put it among Ranjith's masterpiece. Coming to Mammootty, whichever movie you give him, he becomes the soul of it. The same happens with Puthan Panam. And he keeps the entertainment quotient at the top, throughout the film. Overall, Puthan Panam is a pakka entertainer and will satisfy the family audience and fans alike. But, if you are expecting a movie that dissects through the decision of demonetization and its impact, you, in all probabilities, will leave the theater without 100% satisfaction. Rating: 3/5

Mammootty - Ranjith duo hasn't disappointed the audience on most occasions. They have time and again given some of the most classic movies in Malayalam. And when they join hands again, after a brief stint, the moviegoers aren't expecting anything less than a movie which is an amalgamation of class and mass! The trailer of Puthan Panam, assures just that. And then comes the biggest USP of the movie. Mammootty's character of Nithyananda Shenoy speaks in Kasargod slang and megastar being the man who can handle any dialect with complete ease, has done the magic here as well. Coming to the story part, the movie deals with the issues faced by the common man post the currency demonetization and also moves the camera over the black money launderers. This topic combined with the Ranjith brand of writing can do wonders on the big screen if the whole movie's execution is as capturing and entertaining as the trailer was. The negative factor that surrounds the movie is the sudden release and the less pre-release hype due to that. But, it can easily overcome these two factors, if it is made well enough to entertain the audience while not deviating from the rawness of the subject. Puthan Panam will backfire if Ranjith has taken it into an orbit of make-believe fantasy while trying to give enough for the fans. But the chances are less for that. Another point of skepticism is the recent track record of the director. He hasn't been able to deliver a class movie, for which he is known, in the recent times. Will Puthan Panam be his redemption movie? Will this Mammootty starrer do the trick and win over this Vishu season? Answers to these questions are just hours away!
