The Past Review & Rating
The owner of a publishing house, Yuvraaj (Yuvraaj Parashar) approaches Simran (Vedita Pratap Singh) who is a romantic novelist who wants her to write a book based on the character that’s been running on his mind, she accepts the offer hesitatingly. When Yuvraaj finds out about Simran’s plan to go on a vacation with her younger sibling Alia, he insists they stay at his bungalow in Lonavala where Simran can work on his novel too. Simran starts experiencing a paranormal presence in the house which forms the rest of the film.
What follows is a series of unintentionally funny scenes where the audience can’t help but laugh at the many technical mistakes in this film. Like any other horror film, sound effects have been used a lot to scare us but it fails miserably. None of the actors are successful in giving out a memorable performance and their acting is mostly over the top, despite having an experienced actor like Rajesh Sharma in the cast. The screenplay is very confusing and frankly, does not make sense at all. There is no plot and just a simple reason has been given for these lead characters to land into a haunted place where they have to face a paranormal villain.
The most hilarious part of the movie is that members of two different religions try to kick the ghost out of the house. Director Gagan Puri had no idea what he wanted to do and has just stolen ideas from every horror movie. Originality, is what The Past lacks and it is full of scenes that we have seen a thousand times before.
Verdict: The Past should be left in the past and should not be watched.
