Vivegam Review & Rating

Finally, the much-awaited film ‘Vivegam’ has hit the screen with a lot of expectations today. This third collaboration of Thala Ajith and director Siva promises an engaging action drama with an ensemble cast of Akshara Haasan, Vivek Oberoi and Kajal Aggarwal apart from Ajith. Let’s check out what all some of the top film critics have to say about the movie.

‘Vivegam’ is an engaging action thriller with a calculated mix of brawn and brain. Ajith takes it upon himself to single handedly provide plenty of mass-hero moments (a shirt-ripping, six-pack showcasing climactic moment is a particular highlight) and innumerable punch dialogues (Jaikaradhukku munnadi kondadradhum jaichadhukku aprom aadradhum namma agaradhilaye illa). Director Siva sticks to his filmmaking style of ramped-up visuals and hyper-editing.

The film is one of the few films so visually absorbing and felicitous shot after shot. Only if it had been made with good story, Vivegam would have been a pleasing watch. The true skill of a director comes out when he makes a complex film simple, but here a simple story falls flat with a complicated narrative that some might find it hard to absorb.

Ajith's electrifying screen presence has found a near-perfect match in Siva's filmmaking in Vivegam. Siva's staging of action sequences and cinematographer Vetri's top-notch camera work are the biggest assets of the film. Despite mounting the action on a terrific scale, Siva depends on age-old plot, which fails to make us invest in his characters. The absence of a well-etched baddie is also a big minus.

Although 'Vivegam' has a wafer thin storyline but is filled with what director Siva calls 'theatre moments” or scenes where fans will whistle with joy. These sequences glorify Ajith, as he walks and talks stylishly mouthing punch lines in English and Tamil, with huge action set pieces that make him a god-figure
