Sui Dhaaga: Made In India is the tale of the triumph of an underdog, in this case, that of a young couple from rural India to achieve self-sufficiency. Mauji and Mamta are the said couple who couldn't even have time for themselves despite being married for a few years. While Mamta has to look after the household chores, Mauji has to earn bread and butter by working for a typically tyrannical boss. The boss treats Mauji like a dog. He has to do whatever the boss fancies. At home, his father pesters him for improvement in finances.
Fed up with all this, and finally, having found the courage to turn against the ill-treating boss Mauji strives to become an entrepreneur on his own against the warnings from his family where a grandfather went bust after starting his own business. But Mauji and Mamta persist. With the encouragement of his wife, Mauji starts putting his tailoring talent to use. Mamta who is an expert in embroidering.
They face many hurdles right from the family issues to the external forces like the big corporates who encroach the small businesses. How and in what way Mauji and Mamta fulfill their dream of self-sufficiency and how their Sui Dhaaga business becomes successful form the rest of the story.
Sui Dhaaga received a generally positive response from the critics who found the story and narration to be generic but well executed with identifiable characters. Varun Dhawan, Anushka Sharma, Raghubir Yadav, and Yamini Das received great praise for their performances. The film was recorded as a super hit at the box office.
