Soorma is a biographical sports drama based on the life of Indian hockey player Sandeep Singh. A young Sandeep Singh was initially interested in Hockey, like every other kid in his village but soon his dedication and interest towards the game wear off. When Sandeep enters his teenage years, he falls in love with a fellow player Harpreet. To impress her, Sandeep starts focusing on the game more and it soon becomes his purpose to live. His dedication pays off and he joins the National team. While on his way for the coming World Cup in Germany, he is accidentally shot and is left paralysed from the waist down.
Rest of the story tells his efforts of being able to walk on his legs and his brother's immense support in giving Sandeep his life of a hockey player back. Soorma is a story of the triumph of human spirit against all odds. He made a comeback to the International hockey in 2008. ANd under his captaincy, India won the 2009 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. The film shows his sheer determination and passion for sports.
Soorma received mixed reviews, however, critics praised the performance of the lead. Soorma had an average response at the box office. The film was made on a budget of 25 crores and earned 47.54 crores.
