Solo (Tamil) Review & Rating
Dulquer Salman’s Tamil-Telugu bilingual ‘Solo’ has finally hit the screens. This anthology film with four different stories which apparently represent four avatars of Lord Shiva released with great expectations. Let’s look at how top critics of Tamil cinema are responding to this Bejoy Nambiar’s directorial.
Dulquer Salmaan, in all four characters, showcased a worthy performance. Especially, he shines as Siva, the gangster. Although there is not so much scope for the leading ladies to perform, Dhansika and Sruthy Hariharan have done their best in the limited possibilities. Of all the characters, certain portions of The Worlds of Rudra and Siva seems like poorly dubbed versions of TV programmes.
When it comes to the technical departments, cinematographer Girsh Gangadharan nailed it with rich visuals. Srikar Prasad’s editing has a different pattern for each episode. Although the music has Malayalam touch, it turns dominant and distracting at times. Director Bejoy Nambiar, whose forte is Bollywood, tried to bring its flavour to South but seems like he lost it in translation.
On the overall, you 'Solo' can be watched for Dulquer Salmaan's brilliant performance and Bejoy Nambiar's experimental screenplay with four different stories.
