What is Jabariya Jodi About?
Screenwriter Sanjeev K. Jha’s story is based on the kidnappings that happen in his native state of Bihar for forced marriages. Being a native, he knew about it. It is not a new phenomenon and has been there for a few decades already. Despite the officials downplaying the issue saying such kidnaps are on a decrease since the late 1980s, an RTI filed by him revealed that the claim is not true.
He created a comical world around the topic and threw the quirky characters of the lead pair Parineeti Chopra’s Babli Yadav and Sidharth Malhotra’s Abhay Singh into it. So, Jabariya Jodi can be termed as a love story set in a chaotic but comical world. Of course, following the lead of the films like Bareilly Ki Barfi and Luka Chuppi, this film is also a small town comedy but unlike the other two films, it has action blended into the comedy. A rugged subject indeed.
Jabariya Jodi Promises
A chaotic action entertainer
A romantic comedy set in a chaotically comedic world is what Jabariya Jodi is. Abhay Singh is a thug/goon who kidnaps prospective grooms and earn money. One of the prospective brides, Babli Yadav falls for him and he tastes his own medicine. He is kidnapped for the forced marriage because of her wish. And in return we find that she is kidnapped by him. The cat and mouse game between the lead pair forms an interesting dynamic in the film.
Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra
In their second collaboration after shader Toh Phasee, Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra are playing small-town characters. After a host of urban roles, Jabariya Jodi marks a different film for Sidharth. Both him and Parineeti need a hit badly after their most recent films failed to gain traction with the audience. But in unfamiliar territory, both of them seem to have found their groove as we gather from the trailers and promos.
Team Ekta Kapoor
Ekta Kapoor who recently delivered a weird film like Judgementall Hai Kya has come up with another quirky film. But this time, the subject has a bit more mass appeal. With some well researched strong writing and a new talent like Prashant Singh at the helm, we can expect a refreshing take on the genre. As usual, a host of music directors composed the songs including Tanisha Bagchi, and Joel Castro handles the musical score. Vishal Sinha’s cinematography has a gritty vibe pertaining to the region the film set in and a comical tone as the film’s narration demands.
