Padi Padi Leche Manasu Review: Two Love Stories on One Ticket
Padi Padi Leche Manasu is a rollercoaster ride like its title suggests and like how the love story in this film pans out. A director whose style of making compared to Mani Ratnam, no less, has roped in a couple of stars in high demand and weaved a love story of epic proportions. Let's see if it really turned out to be an epic with Padi Padi Leche Manasu review.
Surya is a we-have-seen-him-many-times sort of youngster who appears in every Telugu movie. He is a competent football player (Soccer) and why the director had this in the movie is anyone's guess. We don't see him taking the sport seriously. Okay. Okay. A hero is just like anyone of us and he must have a job or an interest in something. Right? Coming to the story, he falls head over heels in love with a doctor-to-be Vaishali. They live in Kolkata. Surya follows every trick in the book to make Vaishali fall for him.
When Vaishali goes to a medical camp in Nepal, Surya follows her. When she asks him about marriage, he tells her that they should marry only when they know they die without each other. A surprise twist later, they break up. Why and what lead to their break up? How they meet again? And how and if they get united form the rest of the story.
Narration dictated by Hanu Raghavapudi
Padi Padi Leche Manasu is just another love story with an already seen twist. Retrograde amnesia. We have recently seen a Telugu movie with the same plot twist of amnesia or in common terms, memory loss. The director Hanu always takes a grand canvas for his movies but while dwelling there, he fails to make head or tail of what to do next. The same has happened in this film.
Sharwanand is a star hero who proved himself to be able to carry a film on his shoulders. Sai Pallavi. Her name is enough to drive hordes of youngsters to the theatres. But the director who implemented the hide-and-seek relationship between the lead pair, in reality, tried to play the game with the audience.
The screenplay on the first sight appears excellent in the first half. There are several whistle-worthy moments before the interval. We can also think that the interval twist is executed competently. But it is in the second half, everything goes heywire. The director failed to justice to the grand canvas he has conjured up.
Sparkling chemistry between the lead pair
Sharwanand and Sai Pallavi have given their best to make these characters come alive before our eyes. Surya can easily be Sharwanands one of the top five characters. He did justice to everything the director has asked. Sai Pallavi too matched him and to an extent dominated him with her performance and charming screen presence. But Sharwanand made his presence felt in every scene he appeared.
Murali Sharma as the heroine's father again tried to give a boost to the proceedings. Priya Raman who played hero's mother has a good screen presence and did her role justice though it is limited in screen-time. Sunil tried to make the audience laugh but failed miserably. He needs to come out of his identity crisis. Vennela Kishore is criminally underutilized. Priyadarshi makes his presence felt among the others.
Stellar work by the crew
The music by Vishal Chandrasekhar is amazing, be it the songs or the background score. He gave life to otherwise dull proceedings at many places. The cinematography by KJ is dreamy. The visuals are fantastic. He has created a new world to suit the vision of the director. The editing by Sreekar Prasad is good without any jerks but a portion of the movie could have been chopped off to make the narration appear tighter.
The production values by Sri Lakshmi Venkateswara Cinemas are grand. They left no stone unturned in making the film visually rich. The art department did a commendable job. Be it the locations in Kolkata or the scenery in Nepal, they made sure every detail appear refreshing.
The scope of Padi Padi Leche Manasu is tremendous and the vision is grand. But the execution failed to inspire any interest in the audience. The love story which should have been front and center is relegated for the sake of a twist which comes half an hour before the ending. Sharwanand and Sai Pallavi electrifying chemistry and genuinely brilliant music are the only highlights of this lengthy romantic drama. Had the director resorted to character-driven screenplay, this movie would have been on a different level.
- Sai Pallavi and Sharwanand
- Soulful music
- Breathtaking cinematography
- Self-indulgent narration
- We have already seen a love story with memory loss in 2018 itself
- A love story that fails to materialise
Pycker Rating: 2.25 out of 5
