Alia Arora is an orphan adopted by Bipin Arora. Bipin's wife Geetu and Kamla Arora are pure business minded and have feelings just for money and nothing else. Alia is being hated by Geetu and Kamla but is always loved by Bipin and his daughter Isha. Alia Alia is an insomniac and Bipin draws dreams in papers for her to sleep but none of them works. Bipin and family planned a destination wedding for Isha and Robin Fundwani. While driving to the wedding place, Bipin's car gets hit by Jagjinder Joginder's motorcycle. JJ abuses Bipin comically, but it is later revealed that JJ is the event manager for Isha's wedding.
Robin is a fitness freak and thinks little of Isha for having a thick body. During the course, Alia and JJ get close together as they both are insomniacs. They both find peace in togetherness and one day they end up sleeping thus curing their sleeping troubles. Because of a sneezing accident, Kamla dies. But the Aroras desperately want this marriage alliance as they are bankrupt. After suffering verbal abuse from Robin, Isha breaks off the marriage on the wedding day. It is then revealed that Fundwanis are also bankrupt. What will happen in this chaos is an interesting thing to watch.
Shaandaar didn't perform well at the box office. The critics called Shaandaar a sloppy script. The film was made on a budget of 70 crores but earned only 51 crores at the box office.
