Sema Review & Rating|
Valikanth's debut directorial venture Sema that features GV Prakash and Arthana as the lead pair along with Jana, Mansoor Ali Khan, Sujatha and Kovai Sarala and Yogi Babu playing important characters has hit the theatres today. Pasanga fame Pandiraj has written the script and produced the film. The movie touted to be a country comic drama that revolves around GV Prakash's character, a vegetable vendor who marries a girl with the help of their mothers. The core of the story remains when the couple's moms choose to conceal it from the young lady's dad played by Mansoor Ali Khan till she gets pregnant.
GV Prakash plays an ordinary giddy youth who lives in a village at Trichy. He earns his livelihood by selling fruits and vegetables in the market. His mother has been struggling a great deal to find him a bride. But GV Prakash finds a homely beautiful girl essayed by Arthana and him with the help of his friend played by Yogi Babu tries to make the girl fall for him. Indeed, even after getting rejected, he goes deep for her and succeeds in his love. Vallikanth has crafted Pandiraj's script with hilarious moments and sequences lined with events that bring twist and turns to the couple's life. Sema influences with extents of many situational touches of funny moments and Vallikanth has done a good job in bringing the well-suited actors to deliver it. Pandiraj's dialogues have decent and valuable lines that project the value of Family and relationship. But after a point, his dialogues dominated the screenplay as it did not have a punch to draw in the audience. The screenplay after the first half turned out to be more unsurprising and slow. This rural entertainer also fell into the typical style of Kollywood's village-based comic drama.
The actors don’t have much to strain as the story was very simple and they have executed their roles with ease. That characters were felt like this was implied for them particularly GV Prakash's and Kovai Sarala's characters. The veteran comedian actress Kovai Sara shares a good rapport with young actors like GVP, Yogi Babu and Arthana. The combinations with Yogi Babu hit the first rate in Sema. The show-stealing factor of Sema is without any doubt the Yogi Babu-GVP combination. Yogi Babu is proving it again and again with his exceptional timing in delivering out one-liners. On the technical and aesthetic front, GV Prakash himself has provided the background score and the songs for Sema and as always they were magical. About the frames composed by Vivek Anand looked like there was nothing challenging to do in Sema that came with a simple plot. The songs were shot pleasantly with great shades and tone and Pratheep's cuts and effects are praiseworthy.
Final Verdict: With simple and usual narrative style Sema is just a watchable movie. GVP-Yogi Babu steals the show.
