'Sathya' starring Sibi Sathyaraj and Ramya Nambeesan in the lead roles has created a good pre-release buzz as the film is a remake of one of the best thrillers of Telugu cinema, Kshanam. Coming to the story, Sathya is an IT employee in Australia and one day he receives a call from his ex-girlfriend Shwetha (Ramya Nambeesan) who requests him to come back to India to search for her daughter. Sathya comes back to India and he faces a lot of difficulties to find the missing girl and the story takes a drastic turn when Swetha takes a serious decision. Is Sathya successful in finding the missing girl? Do Swetha and her husband have a daughter in real? All these questions form the rest of the story.
Sibi Sathyaraj gives a commendable performance as Sathya and holds the film together as he gets the most of the screen time. He has two different looks in the movie one as a guy in early twenties and one in the late twenties and he impresses with both looks. His performance in this film is by far his best performance in his career. Remya Nambeesan gives a striking performance in the limited role she has got.Like Sibi Sathyaraj, she also gets a role which is shown in two timelines and she impresses both the times. Varalakshmi gets a meaty role as DCP Anasuya Bharadwaj and she does a fantastic job. All the other actors did justice to their roles.
Technically, Sathya is one of the best films of 2017. Right from the gripping screenplay to terrfic backgroundscore everything seems perfect and novel. Simon K. King does a fantastic job as the songs and background score elevate the film to next level. Arunmani Palani captures the film brilliantly and does a neat job during the action scenes. Editing by Goutham Ravichandran is crisp. Production values of Nathambal Film Factory are good. Director Pradeep Krishnamoorthy does a fantastic job in giving out an edge-of-the-seat thriller with a gripping screenplay. The way he made the film with Tamil sensibilities and without losing the soul of the film is praiseworthy.
Verdict: A well-made suspense thriller with gripping narration
