Akash who works in a private firm in Mumbai leads a dull monotonous life. He visits his native place after hearing about his Grandfather's health. There, he then sells his Grandfather's studio. After visiting the studio for the very last time, he becomes nostalgic and a series of flashbacks happen. Akash, then 6 years old lived with his parents and grandfather. His grandfather predicts that he will meet the love of his life after taking 500 steps from the studio. But he also predicts that they will fall in love forever, however, won't be able to live together.  Akash takes 500 steps only to find a girl older than him which leaves him disappointed. Akash falls for Shruti in High School but leaves her for higher studies in Mumbai.

Akash tries to find Shruti in his native place but is helpless. Akash's boss makes a deal with him to secure Akash's job. Akash then goes to Canada and meets Mrs. Pablo for the company's deal. Later he learns that her real name is Akansha. Akash pretends to be in love with her to secure the contract. He also learns that Akansha is the older girl whom Akash met in his childhood. In Canada, Akash meets Shruti and their lost love is revived. But Shruti rejects his love. Akash takes the help of Akansha to find the reason behind her rejection. Akash the finds out that Shruti has a rare heart disease. What will happen to the destiny of Akash and Shruti is an interesting thing to watch!

Sanam Re received mixed to negative reviews. Many critics criticized the movie for its predictable plot-line. Sanam Re collected 30.35 crores at the box office and was made on a budget of 20.5 crores.
