Saakshyam review: A Decent Effort Gone Wrong
Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas has always come up with grand and considerably good budget films. When Saakshyam was announced with Sriwass as the director and the talk that the movie is made on a grand scale comes out, a good buzz started for the movie. Unfortunately for him, despite his father being a big producer who is known for lavish production scale, Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas films failed to rise above being cost failure films.
Now, coming to Saakshyam, the movie is made on a lavish scale with lots of special effects and a grand story. The movie also boasts of an array of highly rated character artists headed by the current villain in form, Jagapathi Babu. Pooja Hegde joins Sreenivas as the lead lady. With everything going right for it, has Saakshyam given the required success to its star? We can see with Saakshyam review.
Munu Swamy is a greedy person who belongs to a noble family. To make his path obstacle-less, he kills the family of the Raja not even leaving children and animals. But unknown to him, the youngest of all, the late-born heir Vishwa escapes or rather saved from the cruel fate by a cow.
Vishwa is brought up by some other couple and despite his being belonging to a rich family, he works as a game developer. He lives in Dubai. One day, he comes across the traditional looking Soundarya Lahari played by the svelte beauty, Pooja Hegde. As usual for a good Tollywood hero, he falls in love with her. But she doesn't reciprocate his feelings. She is very well versed in ancient scriptures.
She goes to India because of certain family problems and the hero duly follows the same suit. But things are not what it appeared to be. There he gets into a tangled web of events orchestrated by Nature itself which remain the witness (Saakshyam) to the heinous crime Munu Swamy had done long ago. Vishwa has to fight Munu Swamy and avenge the deaths of his original family. How he achieves this with help of the Pancha Bhuta's (the five elements of nature... Earth, Water, Air, Fire, and the Sky) forms the crux of the story.
How they fared?
Jagapathi Babu is the biggest highlight of the film with his terrific performance as the baddie. A hero needs a strong villain to get elevated, and Jagapathi Babu's character in Saakshyam is beyond that. The body language, the dialogue delivery, and even the movement of a muscle by him are fear-inducing. He carried the entire movie on his villainous shoulders.
Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas is good in the role of a man destined by Nature for great deeds. He is flawless in the action sequences but needs improvement in dialogue delivery. Especially in emotional scenes. Pooja Hegde is gorgeous as the lead lady. She oozed glamour in both the traditional attire and modern wear in the songs. But she remains the damsel in danger throughout the second half of the second half.
meena and Sarat Kumar are good in the limited roles they are given. Sarat Kumar is not new for such roles and did justice for the role which is crucial for the entire movie. Rest of the cast members did a fine job as required by their roles.
The revenge drama conceived by Sriwass is as old as it gets but the way he interlaced the narration by using the five elements of nature is commendable. But he failed to sustain the interest except for in the action sequences. The love thread which plays a crucial part in making the hero come to India is not handled well. Comedy also fails to induce laughs. Sriwass should have taken care of in these areas. They way he wrote about cows is convincing.
Music by Harshavardhan Rameswar is mediocre in the songs. Unfortunately, the songs come as speed breakers to the narration when things are getting thick. But the background score is first rate. It elevated many scenes and make even the dullest of the scenes bearable. Editing should have been better. A good portion of 15 minutes could be chopped off.
The cinematography and the visual effects are to be commended. The locations and the atmosphere are captured in a superb way by the cinematographer. Arthur A Wilson excelled in the action sequences even more. The visual effects are quite good. The production values are top class. The producers have spent a lot of money and for a good cause. Every paise spent can be seen on the screen. The director too did a great job here.
On a whole, with a tight screenplay and coherent narration with care in other scenes than the action sequences, Saakshyam could have been a memorable film for both the star and the director. But with the current released version, you may give it a try if you have no other options but not a must watch this weekend.

What is Saakshyam about?
Fantasy films are rare these days in Tollywood with the advent of new age filmmakers mostly delivering us realistic films. And anything that comes by in general is horror comedies which are dime a dozen. So, the Telugu film audience is ready for a proper fantasy film. To fill in the void, director Sriwass of Lakshyam and Loukyam fame comes up with Saakshyam starring Bellamkonda Sreenivas.
As is the norm for any Bellamkonda Sai Srinivas film, it is backed up by a huge cast and a considerably big budget. One of the most happening heroines in recent times, svelte beauty Pooja Hegde joins him as the female lead. With the top technical crew as support, Saakshyam is one of the movies to watch out for this month.
Saakshyam appears to be a socio-fantasy film with a family disbanded by the crooks and the revenge the sole heir takes after the passing of a couple of decades when the right time comes out. Abhishek Nama bankrolls this highly anticipated films with a solid budget.
What to expect from Saakshyam?
A technical marvel
Bellamkonda Sreenivas made his debut with a considerably high budget film and a top heroine by his side. With a top-notch supporting team and a star heroine like Pooja Hegde, his latest offering Saakshyam is going to be a feast for those who like hi-fi movies. Leaving aside all this, Saakshyam promises to be a visual wonder with all the use of the latest technology. Abhishek Nama of Abhishek Pictures is leaving no stone to make Saakshyam a top class visual experience.
The lead pair
Bellamkonda Sreenivas films are generally appealing to the masses with all the elements they want including an item number with a star heroine. Now that he is coming up with a movie like Saakshyam, the movie is going to be a turning point in his career. He can act, and he can appear good in fights with a decent screen presence.
What can anyone say about the craze that Pooja Hegde has! She is one of the top heroines in Tollywood and has acted in Bollywood and Kollywood. Her resume contains some of the big hits and concept-based films. She will not only add the required glamour element for a movie with an intense plot, she can contribute with her performance to the success of the movie.
Strong supporting cast
Jagapathi Babu is the quintessential villain these days with his cruel looks and rugged dialogue delivery. He is the main antagonist who grows in age for about 25 years in the movie. Bhojpuri hero Ravi Kishan joins the band of villains for Saakshyam. Yesteryear heroine Meena joins the cast in an important role. Add to this acting talent like Ashutosh Rana, Vennela Kishore, Jaya Prakash Reddy etc., Saakshyam is not just a big budget film, it is big on cast too.
Solid technical crew
Director Sriwass is not new to success. He previously delivered commercial entertainers of good quality. For Saakshyam, he is supported by art director A. S. Prakash, music director Harshavardhan Rameshwar who composed the background score for movies like Arjun Reddy.
But it is Peter Hein who is going to steal the show for this fantasy action drama. It is heard that all the action sequences in this movie are going to be talked about for a long time. And the able hand of senior editor Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao assures us of a free-flowing film.
