Ranchi Diaries Review & Rating

'Ranchi Diaries' has generated quite a bit of buzz because of the presence of Anupam Kher who is also producing the film and also because of the fact that it is being made with newcomers. The story is set up in a Naxal-prone village backdrop where Pinku (Taaha Shah) runs a small food stall. One fine day Pinku along with friend Monu (Himansh Kohli), Gudiya (Soundarya Sharma) decides to rob a small bank but twist arises when they are kidnapped by a Naxal boss-man in the same bank. How things proceed further makes an interesting watch on the big screen.

Performances wise, Anupam Kher stands out tall among the bunch of new faces and he excels as 'Thakur'. Pitobash is wasted and he doesn't get much opportunity to perform in this cliched crime comedy. Himansh Kohli and Soundarya Sharma look good together but they too are helpless because they play poorly written characters. As far as performances are considered, the standards of the film are too low as they are poorly written and badly performed.

'Ranchi Diaries' scores low on technical front as well as the film looks quite ordinary and made with a very low budget. Direction by Sattwik Mohanty is a huge let down as he doesn't impress even in few scenes from the entire movie. Music by Jeet Gannguli, Tony Kakkar, and Nickk Sharma is decent and so is the background score. Cinematographer Bibhu Das manages to capture the rural backdrop well and editor could've done a better job.
