Raagala 24 Gantallo: Decently Engaging Thriller

The premise

Sometimes the ideas are exciting and lack in execution. Sometimes the ideas may not be as exciting but the execution lifts the idea into a good film. How about a middle road? An exciting idea and a predictable but engaging execution? That’s Raagala 24 Gantallo about.

Of course, it is a thriller. And the makers made no secret of it. With the talented diva Eesha Rebba in a lead role, the film has generated some buzz with its promos. Let’s see what this film offers and deserves our hard earned cash at the ticket windows with Raagala 24 Gantallo review.

The story

The movie starts with the escape of three prisoners who were sentenced in a rape case. While escaping from the police, they get into a house to hide. It was raining profusely and the signs are ominous. There they find themselves in a rack with a dead body. To their shock, the lady of the house reveals that the dead body is that of her husband's and we’re (the audience) made to believe that the lady (Vidya) herself killed her husband.

To add more intrigue to the proceedings, Vidya is said to be married by that now dead person, Rahul despite her being an orphan. Rahul is a top of the line ad filmmaker and he falls for the beauty of Vidya. We thought inside out. But there are ulterior motives for him. An ACP by the name of Narasimham is is deployed to catch the three criminals. How the criminals react to what they see at Vidya’s house? Have they really committed the crime for which they were sentenced? What is the motive of Vidya behind killing her husband? Answers to these questions form the rest of the story.

Writing and performances

The movie starts on an intriguing note with heavy rain and escape scenes. Eesha Rebba’s Vidya is introduced in a thrilling manner. But though the flashback scenes of Vidya and Rahul are essential for the unravelling of the plot, they come as a bit downer. But Eesha looked super beautiful and makes up for the intrigue with her charming performance. Eesha made most out of the character that is offered to her. She carried the entire weight of the film on her shoulders.

Satya Dev is also excellent in a role with negative shades. The actors who played the three criminals are neat. Muskaan Sethi is good in an extended cameo. She had shown enough glamor on the screen to gain recognition among the youth. But the song that comes in the flashback episode of the criminals is a speed breaker for the narration. The climax is a mixed bag. Some may find the reveals interesting if predictable. And others may not find it all that interesting. But one thing is certain. Raagala 24 Gantallo is not a bad film. It has its own moments.

The crew

The background score is good. It adds to the suspense element well. The cinematography is terrific. Garuda Vega Anji did a great job of lifting the mood of the film in thriller plotline and kept it colourful in the romantic thread. He has showcased the heroines in a brilliant manner without going overboard. The editing is crisp if not spectacular.

The direction by Srinivasa Redde is adequate. He has shown flashes of brilliance in a few scenes and below par in a few scenes. But he manages to hold the interest of the audience till the end though. The production design is good. Most of the film happens in the bungalow or interiors of a house. But the outdoor locations are decently colourful. The production values are not bad at all.

Raagala 24 Gantallo May not be a pathbreaking film like some of the thrillers by Adivi Sesh but it’s a good one time watch nonetheless. With some brilliant performances by Eesha and Satya Dev and some liberal dose of glamor, it has enough on offer to make the audience sit through to the end. You can give it a chance if you have time this weekend.

  • Eesha Rebba
  • Satya dev in a grey-shades role
  • Engaging if logicless narration
  • The basic premise of criminals finding a dead body in the house they hide and the woman of the house is the murderer

  • Some of the twists are predictable
  • The direction is good but falls flat at places

Pycker Rating: 2.75 out of 5
