Premasoothram Review & Rating

|

Jiju Asokan's romantic comedy Premasoothram is a romantic tale set in the pre-mobile era. The movie stars Chemban Vinod Jose, Anumol, Balu Varghese and Lijomol Jose in the lead roles while they are backed by a strong supporting cast which has actor including Indrans and Vishnu Govindan. Read Premasoothram review below to find out what it is all about.

Prakashan, a young boy, is in love with Ammukutty from the time can remember. But he doesn't have the guts to profess his love. He also has a rival who comes across as a little eccentric and sadistic. Ammukutti, however, doesn't have any interest in any of these guys. And it is when Prakashan is love-lorn and sad, he comes to know about a skilled womanizer aka love guru known by the name VKP.  This mysterious man has only been in Prakashan village for one month and he has already two (married) woman in love with him. The rest of Premasoothram is about the love lessons Prakashan learns from VKP.

Balu Varghese in his clean shave get up as Prakashan, does a good job. But it is Chemban Vinod Jose who appears in the role of VKP. Vishnu Govindan handles the role of the eccentric villain and Lijomol also handles their parts fine while rest of the cast also delivers a good performance. In fact, one stronghold of Premasootham is its solid cast and some spectacular performances.

Jiju Ashokan, the director of Premasoothram, made his entry to the films with the comedy thriller Urumbukal Urangarilla. His debut film was a promising one with a lot of freshness in the theme and making, his second movie is a needlessly-stretched drama that doesn't offer anything new to the audience other than the hackneyed travails of love. However, the visuals and the music of the film is marvelous. It does remind one of the bygone pre-mobile, pre-telephone era.

Final Word: Premasoothram is the kind of movie which is redeemed by its cast. A onetime watch.

What Is Premasoothram About?

Premasoothram is a romance drama set in the pre-mobile phone age and tells the story of Prakashan who is on a quest to win the love of Ammukutti. Suku, a lusty pervert who is also after Ammukutti, poses Parakashan a strong challenge. However, things get more complicated as when a third person makes an entry into the scene. And whether or not Prakashan succeeds in his quest forms the crux of this movie helmed by Urumbukal Urangarilla fame Jiju Asokan. Balu Varghese, Lijomol Jose, and Chemban Vinod star in the lead roles of Premasoothram while other popular actors in the cast are Sudheer Karamana, Indrans, Anumol, and Dharmajan Bolgatty.

What To Expect From Premasoothram?

Balu Varghese's Impressive Performance

Balu Varghese stars in the lead role of Premasoothram as Prakashan. The actor is in never-before get-up in the movie with a clean-shaved face which looks slightly hilarious and weird. But looking at the video and the trailers of the movie which present a few glimpses of his character, the actor seems to have done a good job in his shoes. Watch out for his impressive performance.

Lijomol's Makeover As A Ravishing Village-Belle

Lijomol Jose who made her debut in Dileesh Pothen's Maheshinte Prathikaram is making her fifth outing in Premasoothram. The movie features her in the role of a village-belle and the actress is all set to walk away with the hearts once again.

Seasoned Performance From The Cast

Premasoothram may not have a cast you would normally call star-studded. But Jiju Asokan has picked some of the finest actors in the industry including Chemban Vinod Jose and Indrans for his second movie. Anumol, Sudheer Karamana, Vishnu Govindan, Dharmajan Bolgatty are also part of the cast. Look out for some fine and nuanced perform these actors.
