Aravinda Sametha Review: Trivikram The Writer Shines
It was raining profusely. A car stops under the tree. A couple of men goes to a nearby tea shed. A boy is ordered to serve three special tea. When he gives the party tea, he was given a shot with fingers saying: who will give water. The tea vendor says: he’s new to the job and takes the teenager to the car to serve the big man tea. The vendor asks the boy to stay till the big man to drink tea. Then a hand moment. Drenched in rain. A gun in the hands. The boy shoots the man in the car and then the man who hit him on the head reminding him of water. The boy runs away.
People who watched the scene were in the awe of the power with which the film opened. One of the highly respected and highly read review writers commented upon the opening scene says it’s of the quality of a Ram Gopal Varma film. It was 13 years ago. The director was Trivikram Srinivas. The film was... you know it.
Trivikram’s Comeback Trail
Come 2018, his skills questioned and the reputation was at an all-time low. He need not prove to anyone. It’s time for a self-appraisal. Trivikram served up something unexpected. Not an urbane story of sophisticated people. But the rawness of violence. A dotted panther staring at the face.
Aravinda Sametha is not just a film. It’s a hope that there is still redemption for a filmmaker of the quality of Trivikram Srinivas. A man at his lowest possible position has the man at the peak of his career. Ever since Temper redefined Young Tiger N. T. R. and showed the world what he is capable of, he hasn’t looked back. A dream combination was set at an oddest of the times.
The tale of Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava
N. T. R. as Veera Raghava Reddy was the epitome of a classic example of how much an asset a star to a film when he is a proper actor. The movie starts with the narration of Sunil. Trivikram’s trusted friend. Both were in the same boat. That is anchored by N. T. R. Jagapathi Babu as Oba rocked on the screen yet again in a cruel villain role.
It is the story of a village in Rayala Seema where two factions from two villages Kommadi and Nallagudi always cross the swords. Veera Raghava Reddy is a man on a mission with the aim to establish peace in the bloodthirsty area. He has suffered from a huge personal loss. In order to be away from the violence, he leaves the area.
On his path, he comes across Aravinda and a budding romance starts. She is a researcher working on a thesis on factions. Inspired by her, Raghava goes on a journey of personal discovery and redemption to the violence. He comes up with a solution. But things don’t always end in a linear path. He was opposed and there were backstabs and all. How Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava fulfills his mission form the rest of the story.
Trivikram has come up with his own Rangasthalam. He has conducted extensive research on factionalism and it can be seen in certain areas. But there is a feeling that something is missing. Where Trivikram shines the brightest was the writing. And the way he utilized N. T. R.
N. T. R. is the heart and soul of the film
N. T. R. Is the heart and the soul of the film. The way he has displayed the minutest of emotions is exemplary and proves once again why he is the best actor of the generation. Certain emotions connect to the audience heart directly as the recent incidents in the life of the actor parallels the proceedings in the film. His dialogue modulation is different and he nailed the accent of Rayala Seema. His chiseled body on display in the opening fight sequence is sure to give goosebumps. His simple intro in the movie adds to the effect. This is where the director shines brightly.
The opening 20 minutes keeps the audience rapt with attention. The visuals by the cinematographer are arresting. Thaman’s music takes us to the world of Kommadi and Nallagudi. The sounds create the required chaotic effect. Everything worked well together until the point where the scene shifts to the urban scenery.
This is where Trivikram failed to keep the proceedings coherent. The romance part fails to create the same effect as the opening block. The interval bang is predictable. The comedy is stale for the most part. But fortunately, the chemistry between the lead pair makes the film bearable. The action sequences by Ram and Lakshman deserve special mention. The are AWEworthy and gives the required effect of cringing at the violence. They have done a great job.
As for the performances by others, Pooja Hegde finally received a substantial role in her Tollywood career and she is just about okay. Despite the initial criticism of her dubbing in the trailer, it suited her role quite well in the film. She’s gorgeous. But has not much chance to showcase her glamour as the film is quite serious for the most part and the songs are part of the deity except for Reddy Ikkada Soodu. It is Rao Ramesh apart from N. T. R. and Jagapathi Babu who steals the show in the film. After a long gap, he got an author-backed role and the scenes between him and the Young Tiger are the major highlights of the film. The dialogues exchanged and the silences in between add depth to the proceedings. Sunil looked a pale shadow of his former self. But he has not lost his comedy timing.
Writer Trivikram is in top form when it comes to dialogues. But the director failed to bring a completeness to the film. Leave aside comedy, Humor, or similar cliches words. It is even in the serious scenes, certain aspects are left incoherent. The music director and the cinematographer lifted otherwise average proceedings. Production values and the scale of the film are grand and worthy for a film starring N. T. R. The editing could have been better in certain areas. If the proceedings on the screen are arresting, the runtime doesn’t come in the way as proved by multiple films in recent times. But here at least a couple of times the audience look at their timepieces.
All in all, if the expectations are kept in check, you’ll enjoy a different kind of film from Trivikram. As for Young Tiger N. T. R., he has given a feast to his fans. He excelled in every department. The film starts on a terrific note but loses its way when the scenery shifts. The interval bang is excited well though it is predictable. The second half is good and the climax is emotional. It is a double-edged sword. May not connect with everyone. Aravinda Sametha is not a bad comeback by Trivikram Srinivas. He is on the right path. If only certain right ingredients fell in place, Aravinda could have reached unprecedented heights. But it still has chances to gross big. ‘Cause, N. T. R.

What is Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava about?
It's been a long time since a proper faction film has cropped up in Tollywood. May it be because of the concerns about the violent image these movies project on the Rayala Seema area or because of the concerns rose by the people against such films about Seema, or even because of the change in trend, faction films have not made on a proper scale.
Now, searching for redemption post-the massive failure of his previous film, writer-director Trivikram Srinivas has come up with a large-scale film on the Rayala Seema and factionalism. Right from the first look to the trailer via the teaser, he has given hints about how's movie going to be. Aravinda Sametha is going to be an intense tale of the faction fight but with a difference.
Coming to the star cast of the film, it's again going to be an out and out mass role for Young Tiger N. T. R. with a Trivikram style class touch. It is going to be a feast for the fans N. T. R. mouthing the dialogues penned by the magician of words. He is joined by the svelte beauty Pooja Hegde as the heroine. Tollywood's villain of the season Jagapathi Babu is playing another cruel role as the main antagonist and Mega brother Naga Babu plays another crucial role.
What to expect from Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava?
It is the unexpected
The title suggests the soft romantic feel on one hand and on the other hand, it hints at the violent roots of the story. Whatever, the makers made it clear from the beginning that the film is going to be an emotional action film than an out and out entertainer like Trivikrams previous films. But it's not just about the violence.
It is about the peace that should ultimately prevail. As the grandmother says, the grandfather wielding the sickle for survival, for the father it is an inheritance, and it has become the part of the life for the protagonist. She even fears that by the fourth generation, violence may become the biggest defect of life. Set on the path of self-discovery by the influence of his grandmother and the girl he loved, the hero raises to become the face of peace in the area. Quite unexpected. For Trivikram Srinivas especially.
Trivikram out of his comfort zone
Trivikram Srinivas is pushed to the limits this year. First the failure of Agnyaathavaasi. Next the failure of Chal Mohan Ranga for which he had given the story. Talk that he ran out of gas. But a filmmaker like Trivikram Srinivas cannot be kept silent for long. He surely tries to make his work talk for him. That work is Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava.
He went out of his comfort zone this time to present the Young Tiger in a different role. Of course, there were many faction films in the past and N. T. R. himself played such roles. But it is going to be quite a variation watching him through the lens of Trivikram Srinivas. And it appears the director has done his homework right.
Years ago Trivikram talked about a film Kobali with Pawan Kalyan. He had conducted an extensive research about Rayala Seema and the factionalism. Ultimately things panned out such that he is now using all the homework done for the film in Aravinda Sametha. This is certainly going to be something. If the story clicks in these times, N. T. R.'s image and intense performance will take the film to unprecedented heights. And fans want exactly this.
The Young Tiger As Veera Raghava
The name Veera Raghava has a resonance with power. That an actor and star like Young Tiger N. T. R. is playing an out and out mass role, that too directed by Trivikram Srinivas, promises infinite possibilities. It appears that ultimately he has now bagged a role that demands all his talent to be on display. And it is equally certain that he has given his best ever performance. It's an ultimate marriage of a top-class performer and a role that suits him to the T. Expect not just fireworks this Dasara season, it's going to be more than what's expected.
Pooja Hegde, unfortunately, hasn't scored a big success till now. But that's going to change this time. Playing a title role, she received a role that demands her absolute best. It appears that she has gone all out to make it a memorable film for her. She even dubbed for her role. Her chemistry with N. T. R. is going to be another highlight of Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava.
Jagapathi Babu in a ravishingly rustic role and all cruelty on display is a promising sight for the fans. It'll do wonders for the film if he hits the top form. Naga Babu plays a crucial role in the film and it is his first film with N. T. R. Supriya Pathak as the battle-weary grandmother who had witnessed generations of violence and craving for peace adds value to the film.
Thaman too went out of his comfort zone for Aravinda Sametha and composed music that goes with the flow of the film. Especially the song Peniviti is going to stand the test of the time. Rest of the crew surely have done a great job from what little is evidenced by the trailer. Sirivennela Seetarama Sastry and Ramajogayya Sastry are at their absolute best writing the lyrics for the film. Penchal Das' presence lends authenticity to the Rayala Seema language.
