Neerali Review & Rating

Bollywood editor turned filmmaker Ajoy Varma's Malayalam debut movie Neerali is Mohanlal's first release of the year. The film which is touted to be an adventure cum survival thriller is awaited by cinephiles and the Mohanlal fans with great expectations, despite the surprisingly little hype sent out by the makers. To know how that film fares to be, read Neerali movie review below.

Sunny George is a charming gemologist who is pested by women. En route Kerala, to visit his wife Molykutty who is expecting delivery, Sunny and his driver Veerappa meets with an accident. The company truck they were traveling loses control and crashes into a forest and to their shock Sunny and Veerappa find their truck hanging on the edge of a cliff with no possibility of an escape.

Neerali opens with a promising premise, flaunting the potential of a compelling watch. But a few minutes into the movie, one loses hope and this survival thriller becomes a test of one's patience. Starting from the over-dramatic dialogues to the ineffective music and to the badly written characters and to poor and ineffective backstories, the drawbacks of the film are many. Mohanlal and Suraj Venjaramoodu duo strikes up a enjoyable chemistry only to be spoiled by their weak characters.

Nadia Moidu and Parvatii Nair, the two leading ladies of the film, suffer a sad fate in the shoes of their shallow characters. Dileesh Pothan who appear in another pivotal role shares the same fate. The writer's and director's lack of interest in exploring many promising junctures in the film including Nadia's and Mohanlal's much-looked-forward combo is too obvious to be overlooked.

Not only that writer Saju Thomas and director Ajoy Varma keep away from developing a solid story and sound characters, but also they employ certain gimmicks to cover up their lack of imagination which ruins Neerali once and for all. If anything at all, the saving grace of Neerali is its powerful plot. Along with Santhosh Thundiyil's camera work and the arresting VFX, it saves the film from being a complete disaster.

Final Verdict: A one time watch.

Neerali Live Updates & Public Talk

Although the makers and the actor himself have stayed away from promoting the film on a scale with the hype for a usual Mohanlal film, anticipations are sky high for Mohanlal's Neerali. This survival cum adventure thriller which also stars Nadia Moidu, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Dileesh Pothan and Parvatii Nair marks the entry of Bollywood editor turned filmmaker Ajoy Varma's entry to Malayalam cinema. Here we share the initial reactions to this highly anticipated Mohanlal starrer from the FDFS audience.

The reports for the first half is mostly average. While there is a positive feedback to the performance by actors in the first half and VFX, it is apparent that viewers are not entirely impressed and is waiting for the movie to get better in the second half. Some of the audience have even pointed out that director Ajoy Varma's execution and the music by Stephan Devassy are big let downs from the beginning.

Look like the film has let down the expectation of the audience who wished for a redeeming second half. As it turns out, the second of Neerali not only disappoint the viewers but also bombard the average first part with it's half-baked which is poorly executed and lack of compelling and intriguing elements.

In a nutshell, Neerali is definitely not the movie Lalettan fans were waiting for. It looks like they have to wait a little longer for that movie which would mark the comeback of the actor who had four back-to-back tepid hits.

Stay tuned for Neerali movie review.

What To Expect From Neerali?

A Stunning Performance From Mohanlal

It is after a long gap of almost 6 months that a Mohanlal movie is making it to the theatres. Not just that, the actor has gone under a complete maker over and it is in a whole new look his character Sunny George will be hitting the screens. By the looks of it, it is a challenging role that the complete actor has taken up in Neerali and Lalettan fans are awaiting their complete actor to make a comeback with a bang.

Return of Nokketha Doorathu Kannum Nattu Duo

Nadia Moidu who shared the screen space with Mohanlal in the 1986 superhit movie Nokketha Doorathu Kannum Nattu is making a comeback to Malayalam cinema with Neerali. The actress will be seen in the role of Mohanlal's wife in the film and the duo is expected to bring back their magic chemistry back on the big screen once again.

Ajoy Varma's Mollywood Debut

Editor turned filmmaker Ajoy Varma, who is a Malayali by birth, is foraying into Malayalam cinema after making his directorial debut with Dus Tola which was a Hindi remake of Malayalam superhit Ponmutta Idunna Thaaravu.  Ajoy himself has revealed in his recent interviews that it was his greatest dream to do a movie with Mohanlal and if Mohanlal hadn't given a nod to it, he wouldn't have gone ahead with the project at all. He also said to have shared a chemistry with Saju Thomas.

A Strong Supporting Cast And Great Crew

Interestingly, Neerali comes with a very few actors in the supporting cast. Apart from Mohanlal and Nadia Moidu, the film has Dileesh Pothan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Parvati Nair, Megha Mathew, Nasser, Sai Kumar in the cast and it is assumed that all the actors have enough room for performance. Bineesh Kodiyeri and producer Santhosh T Kuruvilla will also be seen in cameo roles in Neerali. In the crew, Ajoy Varma has some of the finest technicians including cinematographer Santhosh Thudiyil, musicians Stephen Devassy, Rony Raphel and Siva Mani among others.

In nutshell, Neerali with its intriguing and thrilling plot has all the chances to strike an instant chord with the audience and mark a big entry of Ajoy Varma in Mollywood.
