What to expect from Nadigaiyar Thilagam?
Life and times of Savitri
That the life of Savitri is explored on the silver screen is a fascinating idea. Savitri was not just an actor. She was a cultural phenomenon. A benchmark to every actress That followed her. As Indian superstar Amitabh Bachchan stated, Savitri was one of the first actresses with unbelievable spontaneity. Is that the only thing about Savitri? Leave aside her kind heart and her personal life. Just take her as the actress she was. Take for example movies like Pasamalar, Pava Mannippu, Maya Bazaar, Devadasu, Kalathur Kannamma and many other films as proof.
Savitri had an extraordinarily great memory. She always remembered her dialogues and planned her roles well in advance. According to those who worked with her revealed that she had never rehearsed before going for a shot.
One of the most appreciated qualities of Savitri was her ability to maintain poise, timing, and rhythm while giving her shots. Especially her impersonation of S. V. Ranga Rao's Ghatotkacha and pulling it off convincingly in Mayabazar was the hallmark of acting greatness.
Savitri was professional when it comes to working. Despite the tragedy and scandal surrounding her off screen, she was a committed worker. Despite being a staunch Hindu, she acted as Mary in Missiamma, a deeply religious Catholic girl and mesmerised the audience.
When Keerthy Suresh was selected to play, there were doubts how this relatively inexperienced actress can pull of such an unimaginable feat of portraying an actress of Savitri's stature. With what they have shown us, the makers seem to have succeeded to the most extent. Keerthy Suresh resembled Savitri and made the older audience remember their favorite star. If things go according to expectations, Kerthy Suresh will receive unprecedented acclaim.
