The story of Mulk is based on a real-life incident, where a Muslim family struggles to reclaim their honour after one of their family members joins a terrorist community. Murad Ali Mohammed is a former lawyer who lives with his joint family in Varanasi. Like every other simple man, his daily routine is to sit with his friends who are Hindu over a cup of tea. Unexpectedly, his life turns upside down, when his nephew Shahid leaves it all behind to join a terrorist organization specialized in bomb blasting.
Following his decision, his Father, Bilaal Ali Mohammed is taken into custody for questioning. Aarti Mohammed, estranged daughter in law of Murad Ali along with Murad Ali takes up on their shoulder to clear the strain that has fallen on their family name. When Bilal suddenly dies, Aarti takes the matter in her hands and to fight in court. What follows is the struggle of a Muslim family to gain their name and pride again. Aarti fight in court against the blind belief that all Muslims are terrorists.
Being made on a budget of 22 crores, Mulk grossed 27.85 crores at the box office. Mulk received highly positive reviews from the critics and was named courageous and fearless movie that one should much watch. Mulk comes in the category of movies banned in Pakistan.
