M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story is a biographical sports film based on the life of former ODI, Test, and T20 captain of Indian national cricket team, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. M.S Dhoni was fourteen when he was spotted by a cricket coach while Dhoni was goalkeeping in a football game.

Dhoni gets to play as a wicketkeeper in a school cricket team and is impressed by his skills, the coach selects him in the school cricket team. Three years later, the school wins an inter-school cricket match with the help of Dhoni. Dhoni gains popularity and is selected for the Ranji Trophy but since his draft notice is held up, he is unable to reach Kolkata on time.

To please his father Pan, Dhoni takes up a government job as a ticket collector at the Kharagpur station. Depressed by his job, Dhoni decides to play cricket alongside his regular job and eventually gets selected in Indian National Cricket team.

Dhoni befriends an office consultant Priyanka and wins his first century. Disha looks pretty as Priyanka. She buys him a watch as Valentine's day present but is hit by a truck and dies. Dhoni gets depressed and plays 2007 Cricket World Cup in a bad form. He becomes a captain and wins T-20 World Cup. In 2010, Dhoni meets Sakshi, a hotel official and they get married. Kiara looks appealing as Sakshi. He begins training for 2011 World Cup and wins it. His family, friends and coaches are happy with the victory.

The movie was a critical and commercial success and became the fifth highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2016 in India. This biopic was one of the biopics that left a lasting impact on movie lovers in 2016. However, some aspects were overlooked in this movie. This was one of the movies that were banned in Pakistan.

M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story was dubbed in Tamil, Telugu and Marathi languages although the Marathi release was cancelled due to the opposition. The Tamil and Telugu versions were named as M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (Tamil) and M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (Telugu).
