Mayaanadhi Review & Rating|
Aashiq Abu is one director among the young lot of Malayalam cinema who has always made a point to offer something fresh to the viewers. Mayaanadhi is his next directorial venture after 2015 movie Rani Padmini which was slightly disappointing one to the hardcore fans of the director. This time Aashiq Abu has come up with what looks like an innate and intense love story featuring Tovino Thomas and Njandukalude Naattil Oridavela fame Aishwarya Lekshmi in the title roles. The movie is written by noted scribe's Dileesh Nair and Shyam Pushkaran based on a story by director Amal Neerad. Presence of Soubin, Aparna Balamurali, directors Lijo Jose Pellisery and Basil Joseph in the cast has also been a boost to the hype. The makers have been successful in keeping the plot of the film under wraps while creating a curiosity among the audience with intriguing trailers and fascinating songs composed by Rex Vijayan. Well, let us see if the movie really to live up to the expectations.
Mayanadhi is essentially the story of Mathan and Appu, played respectively by Tovino and Aishwarya Lekshmi. Mathan gets busted by cops in one of the deals he does to make some quick money. The incident leads to the death of a cop and he is forced to flee from Kodaikanal to Kochi. Mathan's ex-lover Appu aka Aparna is an aspiring actress settled in Kochi with a troublesome family. He wants to rekindle their romance and what happens between them forms the rest of Mayaanadhi which is an intense romantic tale and a fine emotional thriller.
Tovino as a young man who is in love and trouble at the same time does a convincing act. His boyish naivety is charming while Aishwarya Lekshmi who shines as Aparna in the film has come up with a brilliant performance as a bold and struggling woman with a mind of her own. The chemistry between two is adorable and it makes the movie a pleasant watch. While other key characters like Aparna Balamurali, Soubin Shahir, Lijo Jose Pelliserry has finely handle their parts, it is Leano Lishoy's performance as a sly, competitive actress that is worth a special mention.
Mayanadhi could be rightly told as Aashiq Abu's best film. The director has churned out a neatly made, beautifully narrated movie which has its moments of love, lust laughter and another dozen subtle feelings which one cannot put into words. Unlike the usual Malayalam movies, there is a lengthy love-making scene which is captured with beauty and conviction in Jayesh Mohan's magical frames. Dileesh Nair and Shyam Pushkaran finely place satire, subtleties and a feminist undertone in the well-written script. Rex Vijayan's music flows with movie making it an endearing ride for the viewers.
Final Verdict: Mayaanadhi is an intense flowing river of romance which towards the end becomes a gripping thriller. A movie which deserves viewers!

What To Expect?
- An intense romantic tale
The makers of Mayaanadhi has remained tight-lipped about the plot of the movie. Nothing much is known about the movie except that it is a love story. And from the looks of the trailer which presented a rather kaleidoscopic view into the story, Mayaanadhi seems to be an innate and intense love story painted in reality. The movie could be a worthwhile watch for the fans of romance and love stories.
- Rex Vijayan- Shahabaz Aman magic
A major attraction of Mayanaadhi till the date is its feel-good, romantic melodies composed by Rex Vijayan and rendered by Gazal singer Shahabaz Aman. The songs from the movie have already made its way into the playlists of the audience and are possibly there to stay.
- A 'simple yet powerful' cast
Mayaanadhi has doesn't seem to have a lot of artists in the cast. The movie, except for the lead stars Tovino and Aishwarya Lekshmi, has only a few familiar faces including Soubin Shahir, Aparna Balamurali, Leona Lishoy, Basil Joseph and Lijo Jose Pelliserry and a few others who are capable of subtle performance.
