Masterpiece Review & Rating|
Mammootty's much-anticipated movie Masterpiece directed by Ajay Vasudev of Rajadhi Raja fame hit theatres today putting an end to the long wait. Set in the backdrop of a campus, the movie is touted to be stylish entertainer written by Uday Krishna. Mammootty appears as Professor Edward Livingston who newly joins the college with a mission to bring some discipline and peace to the otherwise unsettled campus. Poonam Bajwa, Salim Kumar, Santhosh Pandit, Mukesh, Unni Mukundan and Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar handles other prominent roles in the movie.
The major highlight of the movie is Mammootty and his stunning look. While it should be said that the megastar has nailed his character with a swag, there is nothing much for him to do other than looking holding himself dashing, even in the action sequences. Varalaxmi, Unni Mukundan, and Shajohn have done their police roles neatly while Salim Kumar, Mukesh, Maqbool, Poonam Bajwa, Mahima Nambiar, Gokul Suresh and rest of the cast has come up with a justifiable performance. In short, despite having a stellar cast, Masterpiece fails to offer any stunning performances.
If director Ajay Vasudev's only intention was to give the hardcore Mammootty fans adrenaline rush and goosebumps from time to time throughout the movie, one can see that he has succeeded in it to one hundred percent. Except for that, his lack of ambition or the over excess of it, has left Masterpiece a mediocre venture sans any merit. Udhay Krishna, the writer of blockbuster Pulimurugan has also limited his brilliance to penning down an average script with essential ingredients of a mass entertainer. The much-boasted actions sequence in the movie goes a way too overboard at times just to keep the Mammootty fans excited. While cinematography and the editing department of the movie are just fine, the music and the background scores composed by Deepak Dev turns out to be a lackluster and drab affair.
Final Verdict: Masterpiece is indeed mass entertainer made with Mammootty fans in mind. And so, the movie has very little to offer to anybody else looking for a hearty-watch.
