Mangalyam Thanthunanena review: Fails To Deliver On Promise
That Mangalyam Thanthunanena is a simple movie is an understatement. It is a tale of post-marriage of a middle-class pair who struggle because of financial troubles because of the unemployment of the husband. To make things quick without any ado, the director Soumya Sadanandan started the film with the wedding of Royichan and Clara. Roy is unemployed and he been facing financial problems. It is immediately established.
The wife is nagging, there are fights between them. Add to that Roy's mother played by the veteran Shanthi Krishna joins them and add fuel to it. It is how they finally reconcile and how Roy finds a means to end his problems form the rest of the story. Mangalyam Thanthunanena is as simple as that. The amusing aspect of the film is a woman director tells this story from the point of view of a middle-class young man.
Kunchako Boban is apt for the role of Roy. He did a good job by showing his frustration both in life and with his wife admirably. When he was married he was warned that he is entering hell by his friends. The opening wedding scene is a bit extended a bit and the hugely popular Melle Mulle song plays during that phase. It gives the vibes of a fairy tale. After the song, the story enters the reality. The young family needs to pay bills and for that they need money.
In between all that, several misogynistic jokes and dialogues are inserted. Malayalam Cinema has seen many films that narrate the side effects of marriage. Mangalyam Thanthunanena serves an old wine in a new bottle and reminds one of Mohanlal’s Midhunam and Jayaram’s Veendum Chila Veetukaryangal.
The music by Sayonara Philip is good with neat tunes and decent background score. The singer turned composer added value to the film. The cinematography by Arvind Krishna is pleasingly gritty. The colors are used well and the lighting is just perfect to elevate the mood of the film. The editing is flat. The production values are decent.
All in all, Mangalyam Thanthunanena is not as fun as it was projected in the lead up to its release. Fine performances and pleasing music make this film watchable but the debut of Soumya Sadanandan found lacking in the right spirit. The narration is cliche-ridden and the direction is ordinary. You can watch it if you have no other options.

Mangalyam Thanthunanena User Reviews
Mangalyam Thanthunanena starring Kunchako Boban and Nimisha Sajayan has turned the audience attention on itself with a fun wedding in its trailer. Add to that Melle Mulle song has become a sort of an anthem. The film promised a lot of fun and a few good moments with its trailer. But unfortunately, the early reports show the film to be an average affair. It is a pretty ordinary family dramedy and feels like a tv soap. Director Soumya Sadanandan's feature film directorial debut is said to be decent though.
Most of all, Mangalyam Thanthunanena is criticised for its cliched story and weak narration. But the performances of the lead actors, Kunchako Boban and Nimisha Sajayan are praised. There are some nice comedy scenes in the film. But the director, Soumya Sadanandan is praised for delivering a clean family entertainer. Ok first half with the issues and fights in the life of a newly married couple. Kunchako Boban and Nimisha Sajayan is impressive as a perfect couple.
