Majili tells the story of Poorna who is depressed as his love of life had apparently left him and how he gets over it with the help of his wife after he gets married by the pressure of his father. Poorna is an aspiring cricketer who wants to get into Team India. Before that, his immediate target is to join and get an entrance into the railway team.
Once in a chance encounter, he meets Anshu and after a few clashes, they fall in love with each other. But fate has different ideas and they get separated because of her parents. Anshu promises Poorna that she would return to him soon but couldn't. This leads to Poorna falling into depression. He leaves cricket and becomes an alcoholic.
In due course of time, Poorna gets married to Shravani. It is an arranged-love match as Shravani was a secret admirer of Poorna and it is because of the pressure from his father, Poorna marries her. Though Shravani loves him to the core, he keeps his distance. She supports him financially through her job and tries to change his ways for better. But he doesn't reciprocate her feelings and efforts. A shocking incident happens and threatens to change their life forever. How and if Poorna and Shravani's relationship evolves for better form the rest of the story.
Majili received generally positive reviews and went on to become the biggest hit in the career of Naga Chaitanya. Critics praised Shiva Nirvana's writing and direction which is said to have grounded in reality for the most part. Samantha's performance received special applause.
