Bornoporichoy Review & Rating
Boronoporichoy Review: Jisshu and Abir excel in Mainak Bhaumik's ABCD of thriller
The premise - It is a crazy world of a serial killer
When Mainak Bhaumik directs a thriller for the first time, the end result has to be a sleek and smart film. But, does the film worth the hype? Well, Bornoporichoy is a quintessential thriller revolving around two men. Arko (Abir Chatterjee), a serial killer and Dhananjai (Jisshu Sengupta), a police officer are two poles of this cinematic world dragged into a crazy cat and mouse race.
Arko driven by personal grudge is out for avenging a bunch of people responsible for a tragedy that killed hundreds of people. He throws an open challenge to Dhananjai to catch him every time he commits a murder. Dhananjai, on the other hand, is an alcoholic suffering from depression. The chase begins as Arko starts to toying with his targets and starts to show a pattern in his crimes.
The movie has some gripping moments and nailbiting scenes that people expect in a thriller. However, the film falls flat as a whole. Despite having intense police vs criminal plot, the movie loses its grip on the story towards the end. The end became predictable and doesn't excite at all. Only, Jisshu and Abir shined brightly through two hours.
Performance - Jisshu and Abir excels at the grammar of acting
Bornoporchoy was made to put Jisshu and Abir in a single frame. These two are known as the two most loved actors of this time. Pitted against each other, they made sure to make the film better. Abir Chatterjee as sharp, shrewd and witty serial killer looked convincing with all his mannerisms and nuisances. Jisshu Sengupta's Dhananjay never gets shadowed by his counterpart. Priyanka Sarkar had little to do, however, she didn't meet the expectation.
Direction, music, and others - The good and the bad
Indraadip Dasgupta's background score is a plus. It naturally intensified the mystery. The music and songs by Anupam Roy help to take the story forward. The action sequences choreographed by Sunil Rodrigues demand a special mention. The dialogues, written by Anwoy Mukherjee suit the edgy screenplay.
Despite all these elements, the film falters due to the captain of the ship i.e. Mainak Bhaumik. Don't get it wrong Mainkan is an amazing filmmaker when it comes to urban rom-com. However, in his first thriller, it seems, he failed to give his magic touch. While the film still looks very smart and contemporary, the plot didn't go along well.
Finally, Bornoporichoy is a pretty engaging film. It is strictly a one time watch. Don't go with a huge expectation. The thriller won't leave you with an open mouth. Rather expect a racy plot, smart action, and tension build-up. If you are a fan of Abir Chatterjee or Jisshu Sengupta or both, go give it a try.
