LKG tells the story of the eponymous LKG aka Lalgudi Karupaiah Gandhi and his rise from being a small-time politician - a ward councilor - to take the biggest prize in the state politics. LKG is the son of a failed politician. Like every smart son has to, LKG learns from his father's life and tries to find short cuts for success. First, he enters politics through the municipal elections.
Next, he enlists the help of a corporate political analyst, Sara M. Samy, a shrewd young lady with a grip on the pulse of people. Her strategies work big time and LKG becomes popular across the nation. He is even offered entry into the biggest live debates on the primetime television shows and catches the eye of the current ruling party of Tamil Nadu.
He is offered to contest in the by-election of the seat vacated by the death of the Chief Minister of the state. Will LKG's raw methods work against seasoned politicians, especially those who oppose him? How he faces and overcomes the odds to become what his father couldn't? The answers to all these questions form the rest of the story.
KG received generally positive reviews and went on to become a commercial success. R. J. Balaji's performance and the writing of the film (by Balaji and friends) received high acclaim.
