Kalavaadiya Pozhuthugal Review & Rating
Kalavaadiya Pozhuthugal is a romantic film directed by Thangar Bachan which stars Prabhu Deva, Bhumika Chawla, Prakash Raj and Sathyaraj in pivotal roles. The film had remained unreleased for a long time but has finally seen the light of day and has finally released. Just like Thangar Bachan’s previous films, Kalavaadiya Pozhuthugal deals with human emotions and the complex relations between a few people, who play the focus of the story.
The film begins with Porchezhiyan (Played by Prabhu Deva) who is a car driver and the only person to bring in the money for his family, that includes his wife Rani (Played by Inbanila) and his daughter Yazhini. Rani is an ambitious and practical women who is not happy with her husband’s generous and charitable behavior. Chezhiyan is an avid devotee of Periyar and believes in helping the society and moving it forward. But things start going wrong when Chezhiyan’s ideologies fail to feed their little daughter.
Prakash Raj plays the role of Soundarraja, a rich businessman who meets with an accident and gets rescued by Chezhiyan, who is one the way back home from a long trip. After getting Soundarraja some medication, he meets Jayanthi (Played by Bhumika), who is the wife of Soundarraja. When he gets back home, he is haunted by the memories that he shared with Jayanthi. The story moves forward and Chezhiyan meets Jayanthi and Soundarraja many times by accident and it is revealed that Jayanthi and Chezhiyan used to be lovers in the past. But the two soon realize that they cannot be lovers anymore as fate had driven them apart.
Director Thangar Bachan has always made films with strong characters and has a simple yet pure style of narration. Same is the case with this film and the actors are showcasing their emotions in the best way possible. The problem with the film is that it was made almost ten years ago and a lot has changes since then, in cinema and in the way of life of the audience so the present audience fails to form a connection with the characters in the film. Even though the actors stay true to their performance, the story and the look and feel of the film seems like that of an old film. This one problem makes the film watching experience a bit weak for the viewers, but nevertheless, the film has pure feelings and speaks about desires and regrets in real life.
Verdict: The film was made almost a decade ago and will seem old and dated. If the film was released on time, it would have turned out to be a hit. Can be missed.
