Kaatru Veliyidai songs have proved once again that the combination of ARR and Mani Ratnam is one of the best music composer - director combination in Indian cinema. Going by the successful track record of their combo, expectations were high on Kaatru Veliyidai songs. The album which has 6 songs reached the expectations and continued the success streak of this combination.

The first song of the album, Nallai Allai is an emotional track sung by Sathya Prakash perfectly and the additional vocals of Chinmayi help the song get even more soulful. ARR has managed to keep the song as simple as possible as it comes at a crucial phase in the movie. The second song, Azhagiye is a peppy fun number which has vocals by a bunch of young and talented singers like ARR Rahman, Haricharan, Sid Sriram etc. The Punjabi rap which has lyrics by Navneeth Virk and the portions sung by Jonita Gandhi are a treat to listen.

Vaan Varuvaan is a beautiful melody sung by the very talented Shashaa Tirupati. The composition of this song is quite simple but is very impactful because of Shashaa Tirupati’s beautiful voice. Vaan is probably the best song of the album and Shashaa has won many awards including Filmfare Award for this song. Sarattu Vandiyilaa is a wedding song which has a grandeur composition by ARR and it was sung by AR Raihanah, Tipu, Nikhita Gandhi. The chorus portion which has a prominent role in the song is sung by Arjun Chandy, Nivas, Santhosh, Aparna, Deepti Suresh, Abhay Jodhpurkar.

Tango Kelaayo is probably the weakest song in the album but it can be listened for the unique composition and for singers Haricharan and Diwakar. The last song of Kaatru Veliyidai album Jugni is sung by AR Rahman, Tejinder Singh and it is more like a Punjabi-English song which has Punjabi lyrics by Shelle.
