Kaali Review & Rating|
The banner Vijay Antony Film Corporation has always helmed projects that fall in the genre of Family entertainer and not so surprisingly this Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi directorial venture Kaali released today is also touted to be a family entertainer collaborated with thrills and suspenseful sequences. Featuring Vijay Antony in a triple role, Kaali has three heroines Anjali, Shilpa Manjunath and Sunaina portraying the hero's love interest in three different stages of the plot. Produced by Fathima Vijay Antony, the movie marks Vijay Antony's comeback as a music director after a short period of break. The movie featuring veteran actor turned filmmaker Nasser, RK Suresh, Yogi Babu, Amritha in prominent character roles released today received mixed responses from the audience.
Director Kiruthiga narrates the story of Kaali lined with three episodes. Kaali essays the story of an Indian doctor based in the US, who travels to India to find his biological Parents following a dream that becomes a haunting nightmare. The events happening amid his search to find the biological parents is the crux of Kaali. Kiruthiga tries in narrating the story with elements of a thriller flick with that of a family entertainer. She narrates Kaali's search for his father in three episodes. She succeeded in bringing connections between the three episodes and the dream that disturbs the Vijay Antony's character. Though the first episode takes slow pace without many engaging features, she manages to bring balance in the second and third phase with a good blend of emotion, action and romance. Kaali makes the second half more interesting with twists turns and more thrilling sequences. Kiruthiga Udhayanidh's effort was evident in endeavouring an idea that has so far predominantly been utilized to portray an emotional drama.Vijay Antony once again marks that his interest is more towards the family entertainers and family audience. He does a decent job in portraying his triple roles with enough maturity and hitting it correct to the audience. Yogi Babu's character as Gopi amusing excursions outings at equal intervals in an emotional drama like Kaali. The four female Pillars does have pivotal roles in Kaali, Sunaina and Shilpa shined with their performance whereas the characters of Anjali and Amritha had nothing much to offer.
The screenplay from the start to end feels lagging even a newly tried narrative style. Dramatic play gets totally unengaging when the story reaches its core and makes it feel like there isn't enough content to balance the tale and its narration. Twist, Suspense and emotional sequences were good but fail to create interest as it lacked depth. Lawrence Kishore’s editing and Richard Nathan's cinematography does good sync with Vijay Antony's song and Background scores.
Final Verdict: Kiruthiga Udhayanidh's Kaali comes with a fresh narrative pattern but ends up look old fashioned. Kaali may look less captivating yet it is a one-time worth watchable movie.

While the actor's fans and followers praise him for the effort, the movie buffs get disappointed for a slow first half with not so engaging moments in Kaali. The audience is pouring praises on Yogi Babu for single-handed effort in delivering humour and holding the audience to wait for more from Kaali.
Kaali makes it difficult for the audience to accept the logic shown in all the three love stories shown. The screenplay gets lashed for its unbalanced travel through the stories. But still, the wait for an interesting second half is promised.
Kiruthiga's narration in the second half makes the audience feel Kaali as underwhelmed as the movie plot doesn't take a plight to have a pacy and interesting screenplay. The flashback portions and cliched family sentiments are delivered with no new or interesting and engaging narrative whereas the BGM and performances of the actors are garnering good acceptance from the audience.
