‘Jia Aur Jia’ directed by Howard Rosemeyer stars Kalki Koechlin and Richa Chaddha in the lead roles who play the roles of two girls who both have the same name, Jia Garewal (Kalki Koechlin) and Jiya Venkatraman (Richa Chaddha). The film tells the story of these two girls going on a road trip together and sharing a bond along the way.
Both Richa Chaddha and Kalki Koechlin have given some great performances in the past but fail to impress in this film. The characters they play have been seen in so many Hindi films, One friend who is quirky and easily excited while the other is an introvert. The performances seem over the top and do not engage the audience in the emotions they try to convey.
Howard Rosemeyer has choreographed for films like ‘Parineeti’ but fails as a director as the film has absolutely no logic and will make the audience laugh at the most emotional scenes. The cinematography is weak and the story uses all the clichés in the book. The music too fails to connect with the audience.
Verdict: Despite creating much hype about being the first female oriented road film, 'Jia Aur Jia' is a disappointment and is not worth a watch.
