Jersey tells the story of Arjun, a 36-year-old former cricketer who makes a wants to make a comeback into the game and get into the national side. Arjun was one of the brightest talents of the Hyderabad Ranji team during the early 1980s. He was the star of the team and was in love with Sarah. After some friction with her father, who is against the match as Arjun is not a Christian, Arjun marries her with the help of his mentor and the assistant coach of the training academy, Murthy.
By 1986, the 26-year-old Arjun is fed up with selection politics as he was multiple times bunked from selection into the national team leaves the game despite the advice of Murthy. He gets a job in the Food Corporation of India in sports quota and leads a comfortable life with his family which now constitutes their son Nani.
10 years since leaving the game, Arjun lost his job due to the charges that he had taken a bribe. The family is run by his wife Sarah. Arjun's son shares the same interest in cricket and has a great rapport with his father. Once Nani asks him for an Indian Cricket Team jersey. Arjun comes to know that he couldn't afford it as it costs 500 rupees. After many trials for the money (his wife rejects his requests), he plays a charity match with the visiting New Zealand team but the match fee is given away as part of the donation.
A frustrated Arjun slaps Nani when he repeatedly asks him for the jersey. Arjun couldn't take it anymore when his son lies to his mother who asks him about the mark on his cheek. He then decides to get back into cricket with an aim to prove himself again and get selected to the National team. How and if this possible form the rest of the story.
Jersey received universal acclaim and went on to perform well at the box office. Nani's performance is praised by one and all and Gowtam Tinnanuri's direction received high acclaim. The performances of other cast members like Shraddha Srinath, Sathyaraj, and the kid Ronit Kamra who played Arjun's son are also appreciated.
