Ittefaq is a mystery-thriller movie which is the remake of 1969 movie of the same name. The story revolves around a crime scene with a double murder. The prime witnesses/suspects of the movie Vikram and Maya are telling different stories conflicting the events of the night of the crime. Vikram is an acclaimed British writer of Indian descent. Vikram returns to his hotel only to find that his wife Katherine is dead. He calls the police but runs after he watches them coming. He manages to take shelter in a nearby apartment.
Maya is a young housewife who stays in the same apartment runs to the police car spotted outside. When the police enter her flat, they find Vikram standing next to the body of Maya's lawyer husband, Shekhar Sinha, who has been murdered. After searching the house, police retrieved the murder weapon used to kill Shekhar, a blood-stained candle holder. Detective Dev, a police interrogates both Vikram and Maya. But both Vikram and Maya narrates the different stories of that unfortunate night. Dev must seek out the truth from the false stories narrated by both the suspects.
Ittefaq was well received by the audience as well as the critics. Being made on a budget of 29 crores, Ittefaq earned 51.47 crores at the box office. Critics highly appreciated the performances of the lead and the mysterious gripping plot.
