Directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, ‘Indu Sarkar’ is a story set during the period of the 70s. Inspired by a true incident, it narrates the situation of the country when India’s the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had unilaterally declared an emergency across the country and this condition prolonged for a period of 21 months i.e from 1975 to 1977.
The film produced under the banners of Bhandarkar Entertainment and Mega Bollywood Private Limited, respectively has story and screenplay written by Anil Pandey and Madhur Bhandarkar whereas the dialogues are by Sanjay Chhel. The narration is a mix of facts and fiction which stars Kirti Kulhari, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Anupam Kher, Tota Roy Chowdhury and Supriya Vinod. Anu Malik and Bappi Lahiri compose music for the film which includes a recreated version of Aziz Nazan's popular qawwali, ‘Chadhta Sooraj Dheere Dheere Dhal Jaayega’ which was popular during the emergency era.
