Satyanweshi Byomkesh Bakshi has tied the knot with Satyabati. The newly married couple visits Benaras and Ajit too accompanied them in their trip to the land of Shiva. Reaching there they were welcomed by a new mystery. They came across Inspector Ratikant Choudhury who invites Byomkesh, Ajit, and Satyabati to a party thrown by zamindar Deepnarayan Singh (Adil Hussain) at his residence to celebrate his recovery after staying ill and bed-ridden for a prolonged period.  The next day, Deepnarayan dies under suspicious circumstances. Now Byomkesh takes the matter in his hands and starts investigating of the crime.

Soon he realizes money and an illicit love affair is there behind the murder of the zamindar. Byomkesh comes to know about the painting skills of Dipnarayan's wife, Shakuntala (Nusrat Jahan). He found a painting of Dushyanta and Shakuntala drawn by her. The painting haunts Byomkesh, though initially, he fails to understand why. He found out Shakuntala is pregnant but his husband was bed-ridden for a long time. Later he realizes the picture drawn by Shakuntala has all the answers to the truth.
