Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi Review & Rating

Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi Review: A First-rate Laughriot

A runaway Bride is always a royal route for heartening comedies in Indian Cinema. Not all click. And not everything clicked get critical acclaim. But they win where it matters the most. At the box office. One such film from the 2010s directors is Happy Bhag Jayegi. A bride runs away and finds herself in Pakistan. Her adventures and her groom's misadventures form the base of that film.

A story of two Happys

Now, in the second installment of the franchise, Sonakshi Sinha plays the role of Happy... Harpreet Kaur. But this time, she doesn't run away. It is the groom who escapes. In search of him, she goes to China. Why? Watch the film ladies and gentlemen. There she is ambushed by Chinese agents (played conveniently by the Indian actors). They got confused by her name. They have to take into custody the original Happy from the first Bhag movie played by Diana Penty. Despite having Sonakshi Sinha's photograph in the passport, how can they do this? Please don't ask logics. We are making you laugh like anything. Says the filmmakers.

Okay. Our heroine in trouble goes to Indian ambassador and seeks his help. Why do the Chinese agents want to take first Bhag Happy into the custody? What happens to the second Bhag Happy's search? How everything gets solved in the most comical fashion form the rest of the story.

Sonakshi Rocks

Sonakshi Sinha rocked as Happy is an understatement. She is the strength of the film. Aziz's masterstroke of a selection. She is natural and the dialogue delivery and her expression when she says every other street in Punjab has a Happy Harpreet Kaur. The dialogues are insanely hilarious.

Mudassar Aziz magic

Mudassar Aziz has managed to blend funny Punjabi dialogues in the Chinese setting of the film and the outcome is downright hilarious. The writing of Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi is its strength, the gags and scenes have been written with genuine alacrity. The film could have been a tad bit shorter with taut editing, but that doesn’t really affect the prospects too much.

Mudassar Aziz indulges in some good-natured mocking of the neighboring countries to give you some hearty laughs. Comedy of errors against the backdrop of mistaken identities can get repetitive. But, Mudassar succeeds in having a strong grip over the film with his situational humor. Yes, there are moments which run astray. But, Aziz's funny one-liners and trademark jokes bring back the smile on your faces.

Jimmy Shergill is the sher

The performances by the ensemble cast are pitch perfect, but the one actor who stands out with his comedic timing is Jimmy Sheirgill. His character has many quirks and the actor delivers every single dialogue with disarming charm. If you are Gil, I am Shergill make the audience split with laughter. Aparshakti Khurrana, in a brief but surprising role, creates a good impact too.

Surprisingly good music

Surprising for a comedic film with a focus on the pocus of the proceedings, the songs are really good. The background score is superior to what we get with many comedy movies. The cinematography by Sunil Patel is colorful without being gaudy. The visuals are crisp as in well-made potato chips. The lighting scheme is first rate.

Sonakshi as a confused girl is at once funny and gorgeous. The credit goes to the director and cinematographer duo. The production values are top class. The movie does feel like a well backed up project. But the best thing is: Songs don't come as a hindrance to the narration. They are part of the narration for the most part.

If you want to get your tummy aching by laughing without breaks, Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi is the movie you. Don't miss it. You'll feel like you have spent less in comparison to what you have gained.

+Sonakshi Sinha
+Jimmy Shergill
+Mudassar Aziz's writing
+Crisp visuals
-A few times, the narration goes astray.
-You'll get stomach ache by laughing for two hours nonstop

Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi Preview

What is Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi about?

Happy Bhag Jayegi which was released in 2016 gained a little bit of cult following apart from being a sleeper hit. The story concerns that of a Harpreet Kaur who is nicknamed Happy who in order to escape her wedding to Daman Singh Bagga runs away and accidentally finds herself in Lahore. Here, in Phirr, another Harpreet Happy Kaur's escapades will be documented. The original Happy joins the cast in an extended cameo alongside the current Happy played by Sonakshi Sinha.

The movie also features Daman Singh Bagga from the first again played by Jimmy Shergill. Now, this sequel appears to be serving more of the same and this time with a star heroine in the lead. Other returnees from the first part are Ali Fazal's Guddu and Piyush Mishra's Usman Afridi.

This time Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi revolves around the ambushing of Harpreet Kaur played by Sonakshi Sinha. But it is not the Happy the party wants. Unfortunately. Things get heated up or rather cool up (for the confusion comedy). Who is the Happy they party wants and what happens to this Happy? And what is the connection of Original Happy to all this? The trailer is damn funny with lots of humor and wordplay.

What to expect from Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi?

A fun ride

Happy Bhag series has strong story base with loads of comedy. A lot of wordplay apart from funny performances. Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi concerns with Sonakshi Sinha's Harpreet Kaur who declares that every other street in Punjab has a Harpreet Kaur to her ambushers. Then starts a fun ride of the search of the intended Happy and the escape of the present Happy. Promises a jolly weekend with Sonakshi's Happy. The movie involves a few chinese agents.

Sonakshi Sinha comedy

Sonakshi Sinha who made her debut with Dabangg is an actress with great timing. Though she mostly enacted serious roles, she is a proven comedic actor in whatever chances she got. With this movie demands a humor act from her, Sonakshi rises up to the challenge as it is evidenced by the trailer of the film.

Strong support cast

Jimmy Shergill again plays the role of a man with political aspirations and has connections. The rich showoff brat. Ali Fazal's return as Guddu, the lover and (husband presently) of the original Happy and Diana Penty's extended cameo all points out to an excellent comedy. Add to that Piyush Mishra as Afridi, the viewers are in for a blast with Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi.

Mudassar Aziz's direction

Mudassar Aziz has made two films before this. All are comedy films to varying degrees. With Happy Bhag Jayegi, he had solidified the formula for a successful comedy-drama. His return to the franchise makes for a promise of a similar fun experience. Producers Anand L. Roy and Krishka Lulla have delivered top class films previously. the production values will be great for sure.
