Half Girlfriend is a romantic drama based on Chetan Bhagat's novel by the same name. Madhav is a rural man who doesn't know to speak English and gets admission into a University based on sports quota. He meets Riya, who is on a temporary basis through sports quota. Shraddha looks attractive as Riya. He helps her secure her place at the University.

Madhav and Riya become friends and go out on a movie date. Madhav tries to get close to Riya, but she says that they can just be friends. When Madhav asks Riya about their relationship status, she says that she is Half Girlfriend. Madhav tries to get intimate with Riya, which eventually turns into an argument. Madhav accidentally pushes Riya and she runs away. One day, Madhav gets Riya's wedding invitation from his childhood friend, Rohan. Madhav returns to his hometown.

Some years later, Madhav meets Riya at a hotel. She prepares him for an English speech. After he delivers his speech, Riya leaves suddenly leaving behind a letter. She writes that she is afraid of love and has a terminal illness and will die within 3 months. He collects Riya's belongings from her apartment and travels to her home in New Delhi.

Riya's mother says that she has been divorced from Rohan and since then she is not in contact with her. Madhav recalls that Riya wanted to become a bar singer in New York. Madhav leaves for New York. He meets Riya, who says that she faked illness in order to come to New York. They get married and have a daughter.

Half Girlfriend made average business and bagged six awards.
