Cast: Rajinikanth as Dr. Vaseegaran (the scientist), Chitti the Robot, and Kutty a microbot created by Chitti 2.0, Akshay Kumar as Pakshi Rajan, Amy Jackson as Nila, Sudhanshu Pandey as Dhinendra Bohra, and Adil Kumar as the Home Minister.
2.0 tells the story of Pakshi Rajan, an apparently deceased ornithologist, who takes the form of a giant bird made of cellphones. The state is in turmoil as a mysterious force is forcefully seizing cellular phones from the hands of people to the shock of everyone. Sometime later, one of the biggest cellphone vendors is killed by the same mysterious force that now takes the shape of a giant bird. When even a minister is killed, the government requests the help of Dr. Vaseegaran.
Vaseegaran proposes to reactivate the dismantled robot Chitti as they are encountering what is termed as the fifth force which is beyond the limits of conventional science. But his proposal is vetoed when Dhinendra Bohra, the son of Dr. Bohra from the first film (Enthiran) raises objections. The military is dispatched to fight Pakshi Rajan. When the military also fails, the state's Home Minister gives an unofficial nod to Veseegaran to reinstate Chitti into its full form.
Chitti traces all the mobile phones and gathers that it is Pakshi Rajan who is behind all this and tells Dr. Vaseegaran that the bird is powered by the aura of a human being, which exudes negative energy. The auras of living organisms are positively charged while those of the dead are negatively charged. If the giant bird is made to enter an electromagnetic field produced by the transmitters, the radiation from the antennae would neutralize the bird, preventing it from reassembling.
Dr. Vaseegaran hatches a plan with the help of Chitti and Nila - a feminine humanoid robot which works as the personal assistant of Dr. Vaseegaran - he manages to capture Pakshi Rajan. Why Pakshi Rajan is wreaking havoc? How will Pakshi Rajan escape? And what Dr. Vaseegaran does to pacify Pakshi Rajan? What is Chitti's role in all this form the rest of the story.
2.0 received generally positive reviews and went on to become a massive success at the Indian BO. It is the 6th highest grossing Indian film of all time and the highest grossing Indian film in 2018, and the highest grossing Tamil film of all time. The performances of the lead actors, especially that of Akshay Kumar and Rajinikanth's Chitti are praised so is the grand vision and execution by director Shankar.
