Eeda Review & Rating|
Editor B Ajithkumar's directorial debut Eeda is one of the first movies to hit theatres in 2018. The movie stars Nimisha Sajayan and Shane Nigam in the pivotal roles while some of the finest actors in the industry including National Award winning actress Surabhi Lakshmi, Alencier Ley Lopez, Manikandan Achari, Sudhi Koppa, Babu Annur, and Sujith Shankar form the supporting cast. Presented by Rajeev Ravi's Collective Phase One, Eeda is touted to be an intense love story set in Northern Kerala. It goes without saying that the movie, despite not having much hype and hoopla, is an anticipated one. Let's see how well a movie Eeda has turned out.
Set in politically turbulent Kannur, Eeda is an inviting story of Anand and Aishwarya who falls in love with each other and fights to keep their love alive when their families, who have opposing political lineages, become the villain. Although Eeda is essentially the story of a young couple who fights for their love, it is formed by a cluster of stories of people whose lives have been amended and transfigured by the inevitable politics passed down the generations and its chaos.
Shane Nigam and Nimisha Sajayan have delivered impressive performances as Anand and Aishwarya. While their on-screen chemistry is nothing remarkable, they have managed to be convincing enough as star-crossed lovers. Other actors including Manikandan Achari, Surabhi, and Alencier Ley Lopez has done their parts well and sound.
Eeda definitely marks another entry to the list of new generation filmmakers who think different and treads different paths. B Ajithkumar, as the writer and the director of the film, has brilliantly mixed romance and politics, subtle emotions and intense drama. The movie has no loopholes or loose ends; characters are well sketched, events are convincing, the moods created are likely and believable. Pappu's cinematography and music by John P Varkey and Chandran Veyaattumel get along fine and well. Editing, done by the director himself, is brilliant and to the point.
Final Verdict: Eeda is a long, intense and relevant story of star-crossed lovers. It couldn't be everybody's cup of tea, but it is a must watch film all the same.
