Dum Laga Ke Haisha Story

The story is set in 1995 where Prem Prakash Tiwari owns a video cassette shop in Haridwar. Prem's father is keen to marry his son to a well educated but overweight girl Sandhya. He doesn't want to get married, however, agrees after his family pressure. Prem is being told that Sandhya being a school teacher will also in return help him in the financial situation. Eventually, the duo gets married. Prem always shows disinterest in the marriage which upsets Sandhya. Prem is even embarrassed to talk to Sandhya on the streets. Sandhya becomes frustrated and the duo gets into a heated argument after Prem's aunt brings up a petty topic. During the argument, Sandhya tells him that he treats her very badly.
During the wedding ceremony of Prem's friend, Prem gets drunk and starts telling everyone that sleeping with his wife feels like hell. Unfortunately, Sandhya hears him and slaps him, in return, Prem also slaps her. Sandhya decides to get divorced. Amidst all these, Prem studies hard for his exam but fails to do well in it. Prem's video cassette business also get affected after his friend opens up a music cd store in the same market. When he confronts him, his friend challenges him for a 'Dum Lagao' contest. How Prem and Sandhya will reunite is an interesting thing to watch.
Dum Laga Ke Haisha received positive reviews and the lead casts were highly appreciated for their realistic performances. Being made on a budget of 9 crores, Dum Laga Ke Haisha collected 30.1 crores at the box office. The movie won several national and international awards.
