Dhananjoy Review & Rating

‘Dhananjoy’ is a thriller drama story which has been directed by Arindam Sil. It brings forth the real life story of Dhananjoy who was convicted of the rape and murder of Hetal Parekh, a school girl living in the where Dhananjoy used to work.

The movie has basically been shot at different places especially the court, jail and many more places to give the plot an authentic look. Talking about the actors, they have done complete justice to the roles and showcased the story in a way it was needed to be shown.

Although not a bengali, I loved watching the movie with English sub-titles. The court arguments are super. what is the reaction of the girl's parents and family ? Are they going to file a defamation suit against the producer of the movie. I wish they do it so that the case will open up and their involvement proved. Dhanonjoy was hanged on 14th Aug 2004 (Which is his birthday), but movie shows as 15th Aug. Is this a tactical or an oversight error. If the conviction as shown in the movie is proved in a court of law, will the family of Dhanonjay be compensated? I feel the family should be compensated to the tune of 10 crores of rupees, minimum. Will watch the movie again in Amazon Prime, using Fire TV Stick.

Dhananjoy Preview

'Dhananjoy' directed by Anirban Sil (release date 11th August) is set to revisit a very controversial subject of the past which is the execution of Dhananjoy. He was the man, whom the Judiciary system of India found the rapist and murderer of Hetal Parekh, a young schoolgirl, who used to live in the building where Dhananjoy used to work as a guard. Arindam Sil and his team, however, believes otherwise and the film is to highlight the loopholes in the trial of Dhananjoy Chatterjee, who was executed in the wee hour of 15th August of 2004.

After delivering back-to-back hits like 'Eagoler Chokh', 'Byomkesh Pawrbo, and others, this is natural that the audience will have some expectations from Sil's film. All the controversies regarding the film might indirectly help the film's box-office. As the film has already created huge buzz, the audience will be eager to know what the film is trying to convey. It's a new perspective to the film which might make the viewers curious. The film won't face any competition from any Bengali release. An extended weekend which includes holidays like Janmashtami and Independent Day will increase the footfall in the theatres. Actors like Anirban Bhattacharya and Mimi Chakraborty, who are known for fine performances will also attract some movie-lovers in the theatres.
