Chitralahari tells the story of how a youngster who is perceived as a loser by everyone achieves success in his chosen path. Vijay is an intelligent person but lacks the skill to wear a mask for societal acceptance. He is one of the unluckiest guys one can come across or so thinks those around him. Despite having the skill set and the ability to make things happen, he is not successful in life.
The only person who gives him comfort is Lahari with whom he is in love. But she leaves him after some time due to certain differences which created a wedge between them. Around the same time, he comes across another girl named Swechha who is the reason behind his breakup. But she turns out to be a motivating factor in his life.
Vijay has developed an app which has great potential to be a money churner but he finds no financial backers. In all the turbulence of love, loss, and failure, his father stands behind him like a wall of support. How Vijay ultimately achieves success and if he gets united with the love of his life form the rest of the story.
Chitralahari received generally positive reviews from the critics and is well liked by the audience. The movie went on to become a commercial success. The film helped Sai (Dharam) Tej break the jinx of failures. The performances of the lead actors received considerable praise from the critics. And the youth identified with the character of Vijay.
