Chennaiyil Oru Naal 2 Review & Rating

|

'Chennaiyil Oru Naal 2' is a crime thriller based on a novel and it is the sequel of 'Chennaiyil Oru Naal' which released in 2013. The interesting trailer caught the attention of movie lovers and the presence of ensemble cast like Sarath Kumar, Suhasini generated a lot of buzz for the film. The movie released today and let's see how the film is. The film starts with police officer Sarath Kumar being transferred to Coimbatore (where most of the film happens), and he lives happily with his adopted children. Everything goes well until a day when some posters ‘Angeline Dead – Today or Tomorrow’  are all over the city and the rest of the film is all about how Sarath Kumar solves the mystery.

Performances wise, Sarath Kumar stands out from the remaining cast as he has come out of his comfort zone and still performed well. Though he doesn't have loud dialogues and action sequences he makes an impact with his terrific screen presence that is required for thrillers like these. Suhasini and Napolean performed decently but the director JPR failed to utilize them perfectly. Ajay and other actors were fine and played their roles well.

Technically, the film is not so with as none of the departments manage to make an impact. Right from the editing to cinematography nothing impresses. The background score composed by Jakes Bejoy is good in bits and parts and gets louder in few scenes. Though the runtime is just above 100 minutes, the film looks the at times, the editor should've taken a little more care. Coming to the director, JPR he had set up the film nicely but fails miserably to take it forward. Adding to that, there are comparisons with the prequel which was a super hit, which makes the franchise lovers even more disappointed.

Verdict: 'Chennaiyil Oru Naal 2' doesn't live up to the expectations, watch it if you a fan of thrillers.

Chennaiyil Oru Naal 2 Preview

What is it about?
'Chennaiyil Oru Naal 2’ is the sequel of 2013 super hit film 'Chennaiyil Oru Naal' but it is made with an entirely different story with fresh cast and crew. The trailer of the film caught the attention of movie lovers as it has an interesting premise of 'Murder-Mystery' and promises to offer an interesting crime thriller. Sarath Kumar is making a comeback as a hero with the film and he looks apt for the role of an investigative officer.
What to expect?

  • Terrific Performances

'Chennaiyil Oru Naal 2' consists of some brilliant actors like Sarath Kumar, Suhasini, Napolean etc. who can take the movie to next level with their outstanding performances and one can expect the same from them. Especially Sarath Kumar is on a roll these days with back to back films in South Indian film industry and as he is playing the lead role, he might have a lot of scope for performance. The film also has a good supporting cast which includes Ajay, Ramdoss etc. who can also give decent performances.

  • Interesting Story and Gripping Screenplay

Going by the trailer, the story of the film looks quite interesting as the Police are after a killer and one can expect a gripping screenplay in thrillers like these. Screenplay of the film is crucial as it has a major role to play in films of this genre and as the story is adapted from a novel written by popular crime writer Rajesh Kumar, it must be good enough for a film. As the run time of the film is just over 100 mins, the film must be quite crisp and entertaining.

  • Good Music

The music for this film has been composed by Jakes Bejoy who earlier composed music for '16 D'. His music for that film was highly appreciated and we can expect the same for this film as well. The trailer of 'Chennaiyil Oru Naal 2' had interesting background score which will be even better in the film. The film has just one song and it was quite energetic and apt considering the genre of the film.
