Tessa, a young graphic artist, runs away from home in order to avoid getting married. She managed to rent a house which was previously occupied by Charlie, a carefree vagabond who has left most of his stuff behind. Tessa, while tidying up the room, comes across a photo and sketchbook of Charlie.
The sketchbook narrates the incidents from previous New Year's Eve when a small-time thief tries to rob his room. In a turn of events, Charlie joins the thief and they both go on the rooftop of a house and the story ends when they are shocked by what they saw inside. The story intrigues her and she starts finding the people portrayed in Charlie's sketchbook. One day Tessa meets the thief as well. She narrates the incidents that happened on the night when he and Charlie climbed on the rooftop and saw a woman trying to hang herself. He tells her that Charlie saved the life of the woman.
Tessa, with the help of the thief, finds her house and meets the woman who tells her rest of the story and divulges more about Charlie. Meanwhile, Tessa's mother spots her and take her home. A depressed Tessa, who is already in love with Charlie she hasn't met yet, is informed by Kani that if she is looking for him, she could find him during Thrissurpooram. Tessa sets out again and this time she finally spots Charlie and both starts off a new exciting journey together.
Charlie which opened to rave reviews concreted the place of Parvathy and Dulquer Salmaan in Mollywood and won them the State Awards for The Best Actor and Actress. Including the award for the Best Director, the film won another 6 awards at the Kerala State Film Awards.
