Bhavesh Joshi Superhero Review & Rating

Superhero movies haven’t had much to offer when it comes to Bollywood. Filmmakers have tried their hands at this genre with films like Ra.One, Krrish and A flying Jatt, and though the Krrish series has been a commercial hit, it wasn’t pathbreaking. These films often cater to children and cannot be taken seriously. The villains are over the top caricatures, the motivation is baseless and the CGI is horrible and given that superhero films from Hollywood are doing tremendously well, it is a surprise that we haven’t been able to tap into that market yet.

Vikramaditya Motwane makes a genuine attempt at making a serious and believable film with Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, which seemed like a great idea once the trailer was out. Starring Priyanshu Painyuli as Bhavesh Joshi, Harshvardhan Kapoor as Sikandar and Ashish Verma as Rajat, the film begins with these three friends wanting to bring a positive change in society. They start their own digital series called InsaafTV where they prevent people from urinating on the roads, parking at the wrong spaces, etc. And they do this hiding behind a mask made of a paper bag, branding the hero “Insaaf Man”.

They have no idea what they’re getting into once they start digging into a water scam. The group eventually finds out that this scam is being done by a powerful politician but keep digging into it. Things go wrong and the politician manages to get Bhavesh killed. This inspires his friend Sikandar to take the name of Bhavesh Joshi in his honor and continue this fight for justice and goes through a heroic journey of self-realization and struggles to find the true meaning of being a superhero. A noble idea by filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane, who has been working on this script for years now.

But a good idea does not necessarily mean a good film, and this one has its flaws too. The biggest being the limitations of Harshvardhan Kapoor as an actor. He has a long way to go and has to learn a lot before he can deliver a powerful performance. This movie also falls under the trope of having an over the top villain who only does bad things. In recent times, we have seen great villains with a grey character, villains who do bad things but have a good reason behind it. And in times like these, a villain like the one portrayed by Nishikant Kamat seems very unrealistic.

Speaking about the positives, Priyanshu Painyuli is the best actor in this film and his performance as Bhavesh Joshi is moving. The audience related to this character and understands his motivation to go through this struggle. The background music is powerful and fits the tone of the film perfectly. In fact, the action scenes are elevated with this music. The film also talks about politics and corruption and is very apt of the present day condition of the country.

All in all, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero is a decent attempt at making a serious superhero film and not making it just for kids to watch and filmmakers like these should be supported. Motwane has proven his talent time and time again with films like Udaan, Lootera and last years Trapped and this project is one close to his heart. He could have avoided the long runtime and edited the film a bit, and left some things for a possible sequel. Nevertheless, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero is an interesting watch.

Bhavesh Joshi Superhero Live Updates & Public Talk

Bhavesh Joshi Superhero has finally hit the big screens after being postponed and it is clashing with Veere Di Wedding. Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, this is a very ambitious project to bring the superhero genre some traction in Bollywood. The script of this film has been on hold for more than five years and the critics and people are loving it now that it has released. Let's see what the people have to say about it:

The film is being lauded for its social commentary as a film like this has not been made in Bollywood for a long time. Vikramaditya Motwane has given many hits like Trapped, Udaan and Lootera and once again, he has delivered some masterful direction. People are also loving Anil Kapoor's son Harshvardhan Kapoor as a superhero and seems like he has a successful career ahead of him.

What is also being appreciated is the cinematic experience that this film offers. Great camerawork and background music are staples of a Vikramaditya Motwane film and here too, the music is powerful and angry, which fits perfectly with the film. The story is also very relevant and to the point, and there is not much over the top action like it is in other superhero flicks.
